Unhappy A reminder of why we all need to be careful.......... m3 wreck

A 1999 BMW M3 Coupe, mid-day, country road coming off a turn. Witnesses reported a high rate of speed then vehcile lost control, hit embankment and went airborne. Turned on side and struck telephone pole 8 feet in air and landed upright. Pole was snapped and moved 10inches in ground. The driver (19 y/o) was ejected and the passenger (18 y/o) was trapped for 30 minutes. The screwdriver that is impaled in that fence was in the car during impact.

The doors and roof were removed by rescue to extricate the passenger who was pinned severely by them. The hood flew off on impact.

The driver is reported to be paralyzed from neck down, passenger remains in critical condition.

If you don't think of yourself, think of your passengers. If you don't think of them - think of the others on the road. At least there was only one car involved....

Thanks for the post, this stuff really helps in realizing that we're not indestructible and need to be safe out there.

OUCH!

Thanks for the reminder. Even though I advocate performance driving at the track or Autocross, I've found that sometimes its just too easy to go fast in these cars. Gotta be more careful out there.

Whoa On the bright side, it's a testament to BMW build quality that those two people are still breathing right now.

everyone should print out pics like this and keep them in their car to remind them of what can happen if you drive like a tool on public roads

Another reason to keep it on the track... you live out your wild driving oats and at the same time you become a better driver, as they will not let you out there w/o an instructor.
