With a new battery does your car have to be re programmed?

I just got a new battery on my 01' 330ci and the shop is saying they had to do a re program to let the car know that there is a new battery so the alternater etc works properly...
Is this true because i have had batteries installed before where this did not have to be done.
Anyone??
Thx

That only applies to the e90 (2006+ 3 series) our cars are old and don't need to have that kind of programming.

The easiest answer is only on models with some form of iDrive is the battery programming/registration required.

I changed the battery on my 00 323ci a few years back
and didn't have to program anything.
