I have the Grom in the dash unit. It works very well. Connects right away, works with the steering wheel buttons and is totally stealth. Would definitely recommend it

I installed this in my car:

Blackberry Music Gateway: Sound goes through the aux connection. It connects and disconnect every time I turn on and off the car. When the car is turned off the music stops in the phone (iphone) when I start the car again I have to press play in the phone to resume music which is not a bad thing.
I got a usb power adapter an taped a power and ground cables in the back of the radio so I could use the bluetooth streaming even when the car is turned off.
Installation was easy: Tap 2 wires behind the radio, connect usb power cable to bluetooth dongle, connect audio cable to aux in. I tucked everything behind the glove box after pairing my phone and never needed to touch the bluetooth adapter again.

The good: Cheap solution. Music is crystal clear, good quality bluetooth adapter, had it for more than a year without issues.
the bad: you have to change tracks in the phone. No stereo or steering wheel control. The sound notifications go through the bluetooth connection even when you´re listening the radio for example, so you can miss something.

Hello,

Best solution will be using wt32i from bluegiga and arduino mega to emulate cd changer. If you use isolated dc dc converter for bluetooth device, you will have pure sound. However for this you need take out your head unit on bench to work on it.

Within that you can program it as you like.

Can you explain this solution in more detail?

Hi Rulf,

Sure, if you are handy with arduino, you can connect it to ibus line and fake the cd changer. Then with using any sound chip you can transfer sound, and send AVCP commands according to ibus commands of steering wheel and radio buttons.

Sounds simple but need some good coding skills.

I hear you on that Grom. I really want to know what the sound quality is like? Is it CD quality or is it more muffled? Also are you listening over BT, USB or Aux?

I'm listening with BT. I have zero complaints about the sound quality, it's definitely not muffled at all. More than sufficient to play music from Spotify. I dont know if any bluetooth system can match cd quality but its close enough that i cant tell the difference. My only complaint about it is it has minor bugs from time to time. Sometimes I have to push pause and play a couple time to get audio but it's rare. These might have been fixed on more recent firmware though. After using it for two years I can say it's not perfect but the pros of how well it integrates with the stock head unit and the steering wheel controls outweigh the cons of a couple minor bugs.

Appreciate the feed back, I will be biting the bullet in a few weeks. I came across LaPower on another thread but it looks too good and cheap to be true . Just afraid of the inferior ebay products.

Ya those are hit or miss. It might be alright but you won't find out until it's installed.

Best solution for BT streaming?

Got the Grom yesterday and will install it today. Will post some feedback on how it sounds. Mine only has BT functionality as I got the wrong cable to add aux support

I used the Denison unit for my car to go with the stock radio and so far I have no complaints. I use bluetooth through a 30-pin adapter on the iPod cable (which is hidden behind the dash). The first adapter I bought didn't work with my phone for some reason but the second one (different brand) works great and pairs every time.

Are there any reviews for the $78 Ebay unit? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-Mu...-/121543181090. It does not seem to have a brand name which makes it kind of hard to search for reviews. But over 150 units have been sold.

I found this to be the best solution:

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...etooth+mki9000

Better than other adapters and with a really good car phone system.

I wondered if anyone knows a central spot where you can see what radio "head" is what? And the year range? Which were Amped and which were not?

Let me explain my situation: My son has a 2005 325i. I ordered and successfully installed an "Anycar" Bluetooth/handsfee/usb/aux unit that works beautifully with his stock steering wheel etc. It plugs into either the CD or the AUX port in the back of the radio head. Some limitations in how it's used, but overall, good quality sound and great features for CAD$150.

About a month ago, I bought a 2000 328ci for myself...something fun, manual transmission to boot around in. Then I decided to order the same BT unit for my car. When I went to install it, I saw that the 2000 unit only has 1 AUX port, which seems to be plugged into an Amplifier in the trunk (I'm guessing, because I haven't traced it through the car, but there is a unit in the trunk behind the side carpeted panel). I know I don't have Harmann Kardon speakers.

By comparison, my son's 2005 has an AUX and a CD port. Since he doesn't have a CD changer or an "in-trunk" amplifier, the BT unit can be plug in either ports. If my memory serves my right, he has an Alpine unit. I know mine is a Blaupunkt unit.

1. Does anyone know if the Blaupunkt unit will work without the amp? I imagine not.
2. If I bought a used "newer" Alpine, will it work with my car?
3. How can I use the existing AUX port to plug in both the amp and the BT unit? Is there a "splitter" harness I can use?
4. Is there a stock unit year that is the Blaupunkt with both CD and AUX, that uses the Amp in the trunk?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have read over 200 posts and I'm stumped.
Thank you,

I thought to post a picture of the back of the radio head...it must be an older version as it only has one 10-pin plug, with only 5 pins...

Any thought how I can connect a Bluetooth unit?
