[Non E46 Content] Make this E36 Great Again!

I know this isn't an E46, but I figure some of you guys might want to follow the project.

Long story short, my cousin is getting into the BMW game (on a veryyyy tight budget) so we bought a $650 E36 and some other goodies all while filming everything along the way. My mic was acting up yesterday, sorry about that, but I'll have it fixed for part 2.

If you like it, leave a thumbs up

EDIT: Here's a link to the entire playlist for the build: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...7JS4TtB8ZzAH8u

Andre,

I have some E36 budget suspension/coilover ideas for you/him, price would come in at about $479 shipped.

That sounds good; when it comes time for suspension I'll make sure to send an email your way.

For now, getting it road worthy and figuring out the overheating is the plan.

cool, $650 for the E36, how much did the engine and transmission replacement cost, also how much for the wheels, paint job, and replacing all the other parts to get it working? Just curious. My estimate after all is done you're looking at around $20,000. For that you might as well get an E46, just saying.

p.s. I had an E36 that color also a 325is! I had 18 inch deep dish wheels though and dde angel eyes in depo headlights. I sold it almost a decade ago for $4500. That was my second favorite car next to my current E46.

Well if we had $20k to spend this definitely isn't the E36 I would be buying.

The goal is to get the whole thing done for $2k including the car and so far we're still under $2k with the new motor + trans.

Part 2 is up guys! Subscribe if you don't wanna miss anything.

We pulled the motor over the weekend and even though it was raining and snowing through the night we got it out. I hope y'all enjoy.

We're waiting on parts for part 3 but hopefully next weekend we'll have EP3 up.

Part 3 is live.

This is an extended episode because we were really dying to get the new motor in. All hands were on deck so the filming suffered a bit, but we should be in the garage for the rest of the episodes .

Looks like a great look into the efforts required to do this work as a young hobbyists. Riding around in friends cars, hoodies, and working out of the house garage in the middle of the night. Very cool, and all too familiar.

I don't think we'll have it running in Ep4 but hopefully we'll be close; there is lots of small stuff we have to finish up first(like our DBW throttle). The wiring is actually what we're figuring out now. Its going to be very tedious and time consuming figuring out what pin does what and I haven't yet decided how much E36 wiring we're keeping. Because of that I'm hoping that we can get Ep4 out before 2017 starts.

Thanks for the kind words. I do my best to try and film everything I can so it feels like whoever is watching is part of the project. Only thing is sometimes we just don't have enough hands to do it all.

Ep4 will probably be up very late December. Instagram and Facebook will have some BTS stuff if anyone is interested.

under $2k for a new motor AND new transmission? HOW??? A motor alone costs several thousand, and a transmission alone costs several thousand, and then install of both will cost well over $5000!

Total of around $12000 to $15000+ installed! You would be better off paying the normal $8000 for a car with a good motor and transmission!

Are you doing all the work yourself (not paying one penny for installation) and taking a used engine and transmission from a junkyard? Have you verified the donor junk engine and transmission actually work?

edit: forgot this is an e36 not e46.

still i would estimate a couple thousand for transmission, couple thousand for engine, and several thousand for the installation. Still cheaper to get a working e36 (or even e46!)

update: saw your posted video. Yes it looks like you are doing all the work and not paying for it. Only way you could have such a low price! The work alone would cost as much or more than the engine and transmission - and you aren't likely to get a working engine and transmission for less than a combined maybe $5000 from a working donor car you rip it out of - in which case why take it out if it already works? Unless you took engine from one donor car and transmission from another.

Wat

Motor and trans were $700 from a local guy I know....Not sure where you got those crazy prices, but not even an s54 + trans would cost 5k+.

Ignore that one....

If you research his threads, many of them make no sense at all.

Nice job!
And price! I paid like 1200USD for a M54B30 engine with harnes and ecu from germany + ca. 600USD for the other parts +labour, mainly the electrical stuff..
Not so cheap in europe or I was paying too much
