Have you ever actually tried to withdraw $16k in cash from an account? It's not exactly easy.

You might want to consider accepting a wire transfer like normal people do when they sell a car.

My old e46 I sold a few years ago the guy came to pick it up and pay and gave me a bag full of cash. I wasn't sure what to do with that much money in cash. But yeah you generally need to make a special appointment with your bank to withdraw that much.

And to the OP - I used to own a e60 m5 and loved it but sold it a year later because while it had the best engine in the world it was in a boat of a 5-series body. You're going to miss your e46 I promise you, best of luck with the sale.

Pretty sure you have to sign all the "I'm not financing isis" paperwork for 10grand or higher regardless of how you transfer/withdraw. Wire transfer I agree would be the least painful route. But good luck any way.

You don't have to sign any releases to withdraw your own money, as far as I've experienced. I've never paid for a car with cash a la a mysterious briefcase full of bills. But I have recently bought two cars for cash with a certified check, and it was nothing more than going to the bank teller window.

I know of three banks that make you sign a statement saying the money you are withdrawing is not being used for illegal means. Same statement when depositing more than 10k cash. Banks are also obligated to report the transaction to the IRS regardless if it's a deposit or withdrawal. Unless you are a verified and regular business that they deal with. In those cases, they file a exemption form with IRS so they don't have to report every time you do large transactions on behalf of the business. It has to be renewed every year. It's called the "Bank Secrecy Act".

Maybe some banks don't make customers sign anything other than the withdrawal slip, but the ones I deal with do.

I wouldn't accept cash. Could be counterfeit for all you know. Some dude try to buy my GF's car with 5g's a while back and we went to the bank and I paid the $10 for a cashiers check. Was worth it to have the bills verified.
people are shady i dont trust any of 'em

You made a wise decision but it is not all bad, m5 on the horizon?? I think that would soften the blow of losing the e46

An e60 M5 will make an SMG E46 look as reliable as a civic..do your research before you jump into the E60 if you thought maintenance on this one was expensive. I was considering the same before deciding on an 535i Msport instead.
