Bluetooth Retrofit Help

Hello,

I just got a used TCU off my friend, part number 84106963798 for $50, he also gave me his Bluetooth Antenna. I mounted both and they are both working properly... however the Bluetooth signal is VERY poor if I put my cell phone next to the Bluetooth antenna it gets much better.

Should I purchase a new antenna? Is there an antenna booster available? I am using an iPhone 6. The phone does not pair when in my pocket (Bluetooth Antenna is under the rear ashtray).

Thanks.

If try to relocate the antenna. Where would you put your iPhone if the connection quality wasn't an issue. You could then move the antenna to that location. Are you sure the BT module is operating properly? I doubt that the phone is the issue. I have the same phone and the BT connects to devices 10-15 feet away.

My phone works 100% with everything else, I ordered a new BT antenna. I just really hope it's not an issue with the TCU (pretty pleased with the deal I got from my buddy)

I'll keep everyone updated.

In my car I get Bluetooth 5-10 feet outside the car. iPhone 6plus.

Are you sure you have the antenna plugged in to the correct cable and the correct cable plugged into the TCU?

Very good to know, hopefully it will be remedied with a new antenna. I am just hoping it isn't the TCU...

What year car? BMW assist factory installed?

If you have the 2004 "no Bluetooth" TCU, you can code the BT on in NCS just to check if swapping the TCU makes a difference and hopefully isolate the cause.

Those work, but have some pairing issue that prevents the device from auto connecting. You have to pair from scratch every time you get in the car.

Otherwise it still sounds like you have the wrong line plugged into the TCU.
Does it pick it up better in the trunk?

You can turn on the BT in the OEM TCU with NCS expert. Don't forget to also turn on portable handset.
I had mine that way for a couple months till I found a -993 for $50 on eBay.
Gf's 04 still has the 04 "nonBT" TCU with BT coded on.
At least it will tell you if your new TCU is to blame.

Solution found: there's more than one purple wire in the rear - that one went to the antenna.
