[HELP] A/C Problems

So I just bought a 2004 325ci and it has a bunch of weird quirks that I am sorting out and fixing (mostly by myself). The previous owner of the car knew barely anything about it but I can tell that it was not taken care of very well mainly due to the grindings on the rims and the cut springs lowering the car. But one problem I have no clue about is that the A/C only works when I am driving?

If I am just starting the car or stopped in traffic, it will only blow hot air. Has anyone had any experience with this?

check the electric fan (number plate side of the radiator) is running. if not see if you can get it to go - it may be seized and need some help to free up, not getting power etc...

Is the transmission a manual or automatic?

Theres some shotty wiring done to the fan motor. Its hard wired to a switch in the glove box that I have to manually turn on when I start the car so it will cool the engine. Is that the same fan?

sorry I've put you wrong - I assumed you had an auto. but that switch setup sounds dodgy. where I was going with it was the fan (on an auto at least) blows air through the radiators (both air con and engine) which will help give you a/c while you're not moving. if the fan isn't going, that will explain your lack of a/c when not moving. it may be worth checking if the fan is running anyway and sorting it if not.
