thermostat

Hello. My engine dont get warm.. And because of this I want to change the thermostat!
I need some help to fint the thermostat on my 316i 2004. Got a picture of the engine in another 316i that I want to take the thermostat from.
Would be awsome if you could help me and maby paint a ring around the picture or something!
Thank you guys!

I don't have a way of drawing, but it's behind the waterpump, which this that pulley directly behind your power steering reservoir (green cap). It actually looks like a challenge to replace on these 4-cyl engines (as opposed to the 6-cyl M52/M54).

I'd be a little hesitant to install a second-hand thermostat as you'll likely run into the same issue you're having now sometime soon down the road. The part is cheap enough that you can install a new one. If you do install the second-hand part, at the very least install new gaskets, and maybe even the lower radiator hose.

Check out www.realoem.com for a parts diagram, it should help you locate the thermostat.

Thanks Discostu, I actually found the diagram. You have a N42 engine. I'm sure if you go on youtube and search N42 thermostat you'll have a video that describes how to replace it.

No. You can't remove it from the under side. Remove the plastic covers on the engine. Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of the car's vehicle identification number. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Use realoem to see how the parts fit.

Yea I've found it on realoem. But as you can see in the picture, its quite far down on the engine. But I guess I'll give it a try from above then. Thanks!!
