So I looked at the 94R the other day at Walmart and did not see a spot for the vent hose. Am I missing something here?

There is a spot for the vent hose. I just purchased one for my 323iT wagon. I had to replace my Interstate battery.

The battery has two locations on either side of the battery (short side). They look like small holes that are part of the plastic molding process at the factory but in fact are vent hole options.

The battery comes with a plastic bag tapes to it with BOTH an angled (90 deg) vent tube and a stopper for the other side.

See pics.

I've got the WalMart battery as well. No problems to speak of after a year and a half.

I replaced my 4year old OEM batt with the 49DL batt. No problems with it for 4years then this morning... ZZzzzzz, all my car was doing this morning, perfect timing, day off, was going to go to put in some OT and no go. Heading to Costco to check on the replacement talked about here, I will let you know about the 4pk, if not WM it is!!!

white has been discontinued. black is now used for the aftermarket version.

just curious, why does the difference in color of the battery case matter?

Because the white looks more OEM and I like the color as being different
Also it has the indicator eye like the OEM battery which I find sort of cool.

When did you hear Walmart discontinued this battery in white?

A forum member at Fest who lives in Kansas just bought this for his E39 at his local Walmart a few months ago.

I also purchased from WalMart, few weeks ago @ $77. was perfect fit(cap and vent tube), starts strong, and was easy swap(changed in WM parking lot with tools in trunk lid!).

A forum member at Fest who lives in Kansas just bought this for his E39 at his local Walmart a few months ago.
3 weeks ago I went to the local walmart for a battery. I noticed that all the way back in the row of 94-Rs they had two white ones. Score (I thought). They had the eye and OEM color. After dragging one out I noticed the date stamp on it. 3/09.... Indicator "light" was dark. The other one same thing. Needless to say...... I promptly picked up the black battery with a date code of 7/10 and no indicator eye.

I am willing to be that all of the white ones are old stock. I have been in 2 differnt Walmarts in the past two weeks and all they had were the black ones.

bought my car with an interstate battery in it and i think the heat finally got to it. Yesterday I noticed it had a hard time starting after sitting for a day.

My buddy can get me a Optima Red top for 100. Any comments with using the gel cell battery in these cars

Installed the Wal Mart battery in my 2005 330ci Convertible and found it to be an exact fit - even down to the vent hose hole. The red cap over the positive terminal fits in the proper spot as well. I was concerned the battery might not fit in a convert but went in fine and took all of about 10 minutes with trunk tool kit wrench and screwdriver. Spent $77 + $9 core charge. Auto Zone wanted $145. WM has a better rating than the original BMW battery too.

Only problem is the fact that I live in Chicago where there are no Wal Marts so had to drive to the suburbs
