Sorry so no clue on the alpine as I don't have one, but not heard of someone adding that.

The screen is really shiny without the antiglare film, so strongly recommend it. The film is included and take your time to install it well.

Cant speak for all possible nav systems as there are dozens of options but the onboard google nav requires a net connection to function.

I bit the bullet and picked up the Avant 2 over the Black Friday sale. I installed the radio and backup camera yesterday, which was a breeze thanks to the install guide.
A few things of note for rear camera installs on a sedan:
  • You don't have to remove the BMW emblem on the trunk to install the backup camera. (From step 11.)
  • The positive wire on the reverse light is Blue/Yellow as opposed to Blue/Brown from the install guide. (From step 20, part 1.)
  • DO NOT USE WIRE TAPS. DO NOT USE WIRE TAPS. They just don't work; the wires must be too small. I followed the same route as the install guide and just manually stripped the wires and used electrical tape. Seriously, do not use wire taps.

This radio is probably the best upgrade I've given any car in a long time. As I get into playing with it over the next week, I'm sure I'll have more feedback. So far, it's great. Here are a couple takeaways I've noticed so far:
  • The subwoofer output is a single RCA jack in the rear of the radio. My Infinity Basslink is a 2 RCA cable input (technically it's 4 RCA; 2 for front and 2 for rear). I chose to install it to the Rear Left/Right RCA outputs on the radio. I may go back in and change that to the single sub output so I can control the sub levels from the radio. Right now I can't.
  • The bluetooth audio screen doesn't show the song information like my old Mediabridge device did. Just a odd speaker icon with track and pause control. I'm going to ask Tommy if there's any hope to update that in the future.
  • ESPN radio app doesn't work. It loads fine but I can't navigate to anything in the app. Likely an easy scaling fix from Tommy.
  • Audio controls are very in-depth. Plus, the BavSound Stage I speakers now sound like the $500 investment I paid for compared to the Business CD. Very nice.
  • Is there anyway to default to a preferred homepage? (Car Home/Android Home)
  • I can use all the steering wheel buttons! I never thought I'd be so stinking excited about that!
  • Rear camera is awesome and works great at night.

If you're on the fence about buying one, but have the funds - go for it! I can't see anyone having buyer's remorse, especially current Android users. It's a fantastic device that's easy to install in an afternoon and integrates so well into the car's interior.

I am really pleased to hear that the guide worked so well for you! GREAT to hear and wonderful points for clarity into the sedans!

Well done! I am pleased every single day with the Avant-2, and am running the BAVSOUND S1 kit as well, and hope to do the S2 stealth sub in a few months.

I took my car to a recent M Car day for the BMW club, and the level of positive reaction I got from other E46 drivers was REALLY high for the deck. Well.. with the exception of the one guy all butt hurt because his android tablet custom HACK job (which looked just awful) wasn't too impressive. (It was truly awful)

Someone tell me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a coupon code for forum members. I saved almost $100 on the purchase

any error codes

Hi

I have a quick question, did you see any ERROR codes on screen since you take out factory licence bulb?

I am trying to complete the same test on e53, and before I put it firmly i did the test run, but after connecting all it was taking 60 to 90 seconds to display..

Onlything I did not do was I did not put tape the wires..

I have to test again today and let you know
but am curious are there any ERROR codes on ODOMETER console or no!!!

-Thanks, RKT

No errors at all. You really need to cover those open wires with something. If not, it'll rub against the bare metal of the trunk and ruin your electronics.

No you don't need internet to run the nav. Download the navigation made by Sygic. Just search Sygic in the Google play store.

Any GPS navigation you purchase or download on Google Play will work without a net connection. I use Co-pilot and Navigon, but they are both paid apps.

The screen is plenty visible in any lighting. I actually have to use the included screen dimming app (Screen Filter) to dim it more at night.

ac vents

04 330ci..I downloaded the guide, and I was doing fine until I got to the a/c vents. I can't seem to get them free. I'm worried that I'm going to break something. Any additional tips?

Read the Bentley and then leaned on it a bit more. They finally came out. Moving forward.

Yeah, the A/C vent is a pain, but it'll come out with some serious convincing.

I will admit the first time taking those vents out had me pretty freaked out as I followed the advice I had at the time. Applied more and more pressure until they finally popped out. You can see the four little grippy tabs that stick out to hold it in place. Sliding an old plastic card helps a lot as you work the vent out of place.

Sounds like you got it though, but a little nerve wracking at first.

I finished up the install earlier in the week. Other than the A/C vents, I didn't have much of an issue thanks to this great write-up. THANK YOU.

I have had some issues with noise on the Bluetooth internal mic for my phone. The connection seems fine because the audio transfer works great. Conversely, the phone connection sounds like a bad radio channel, and the people on the other end have said the noise is extreme. One of the main reasons I got this upgrade was to help with phone conversations during my hour long one way commute. I've started the process of exploring the settings on my phone and the Avant. Any quick tips would be appreciated. My phone is a Samsung S5.

Thanks in advance.

For others and FWIW..I followed some of the advice on some Samsung sites without any luck, but when I added the "S Voice" app to my phone it fixed the problem. S Voice states that it is intended to make the phone/car process easier/safer, but it must also change some settings that were not correct. Works like a champ and clear as a bell.
