Well I was on the highway and went to shift to 4th and noticed the pedal went limp and couldn't get into 4th. Replaced the slave cylinder, but still limp clutch pedal. I found the clutch master cylinder; however I'm a bit worried about getting the line of the master cylinder going to the slave cylinder.
I searched everywhere for information only to find how to replace slave cylinder and bleed my brakes. Does anyone replaced their master cylinder, or have any insight of how to do this correctly? I will try to post a pic of the area of concern
My car was taken to the shop. I finally got tired of trying to work on the thing. Should be done sometime this week. I'll let you know what the issue was once they let me know.
Well car still is not running. I have replaced:
-slave cylinder 3 times
-master cylinder
-and purchased a pressure bleeder and bleed the sh*t out of it.
Every shop I talk to tell me its a hydraulic problem not clutch and every hour I spend working on the car I steer more towards something more serious because she is still not going into gear.
Bansheeman: How much did you pay to get your car fixed?
My friend checked out the tranny and said the problem was in the clutch. He said the springs on the pressure plate may have collapsed or one of the bearings went out. Did you do a oem replacement?
I purchased a lightened steel flywheel(15.7lbs) and a stage 2 kevlar clutch. I'm also replacing the release fork, pivot pin and release fork spring. (Total in parts $600)
Everything else up has been replaced. Car should be done by friday
More sad news came my way yesterday afternoon when my mechanic had told me the tranny was dead. He said after he put the clutch in and everything back together he went to test drive it and when he releases the clutch a :yikes:loud screaming noise began coming from the tailstock of the tranny.
He said now when you release the clutch in neutral its still in gear(still tries to move).
:banghead:$900 later a tranny was purchased.:bawling: Hopely car will be running and ready to go today
2nd tranny installed same sound. However something i learned, with the car off the ground(on the lift) and them running the car through the gears I believe caused the DSC(ABS) or whatever to try to stop the car.
They then test drove the car on the street, sound is gone........
So.........5spd tranny 100k miles for sale(since I got extra one)
Am I pissed I just blew $900 on a tranny I didn't need..........that answers itself.
Car still isn't done, last time i talked to the mechanic he told that he is going to have to replace the rubber hose coming from the master cylinder to slave cylinder.
He is under the impression that the throw bearing is not releasing because the clutch pressure line is damaged not allowing fluid to go back only forward(like a check valve)
When you start the car in nuetral you here a loud screeching sound( metal to metal contact), but when its started in gear(clutch in) it tries to move and if you hold your foot on the great( obviously the car doesn't move, but stays running)no screeching sound and is a b*tch to get out of gear.
What I'm observing is that this man put the clutch disc in backwards.
What happens when he needs to take off the SAC pressure plate to flip the clutch disc to the other side. How do you calibrate it?
Did you find the cheapest shop to do the work??? Find a better shop sounds like they don't know what they are doping but hey they probably were the cheapest....... I lose jobs every day because I am "to Expensive" however most end up back at the shop for the work to be redone or repaired. Sometimes the Cheapest quote is the most expensive in the end
Actually it was my friends shop who normally does performance work on muscle cars. BMW was a new breed to him.
Yesterday I went over there and pulled the tranny out with him to explain that he indeed have the clutch disc backwards. Nothing was damaged except my wallet for having to buy a tranny I never needed.
I have learned my lesson on this one for sure. Next time DIY
Now that the clutch chapter is closed time to do the valve cover and power steering hose.
I greatly appreciate all the members that helped me with any and all knowledge they could provide.
