How is the CD changer mounted?

Looking to add a CD changer to my convertible but the existing bracket doesn't appear to be ready to accept a changer? Any pics to help? TIA!

I bought a used 6-Disc off EBay that had a bracket attached, which I then just mounted to the plastic tray. Works fine.

Thanks for the pic, but isn't it supposed to go in the cavity inside the carpet? I have mine apart and I just see there is another module already there and really not a ton of space to mount anything.

If the car left Germany with a factory mounted trunk changer, the trunk liner would have been different with a cavity and a smaller plastic tray. If your car did not have a factory installed trunk changer, as mine, there is no cavity. I chose the option of mounting it to the plastic tray as finding the correct trunk liner for a cabriolet was never going to happen.

Ah ok, I gotcha. Mine says CD changer ready and have a hump with a removable cover. I still can't imagine how it would mount based on what's already in there.

I think all cars came pre-wired. Post a picture - I'd like to see.

If factory installed, the CD Changer would have a bracket that attaches to mount points. You really need the correct bracket.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...64#65128378545

And I believe it's this one:

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...d/65128378545/

One could almost guess that your car had a CD Changer at some point.

You're right. The reason I don't have a bracket is bc the previous owner had a Sirius XM Tuner put in its place. Thanks for the link! Gonna order the bracket! It's the correct one for the vert right?

Interesting that you would want to fit a CD changer! I disconnected the CD changer on my 330CI and fitted a DICE unit instead. The DICE unit connects directly to the CD changed harness plugs and allows an IPOD to be connected instead. You then enable the DICE unit via the CD control on the head unit and instead of having only 6 CD's, you can have as many as on your IPOD. The DICE is controllable via the steering wheel controls. (track change / album change / volume etc) I led the cable that connects to the IPOD to the small tray under the armrest so sits there unseen from outside so that it is simple to connect / remove. Works just fine!

Don't laugh but I bought this car to restore and have that nostalgic feeling when I drive. To me it's like a modern classic. The last of the analog cars. But, you make a great point and I may just go that route. I just happened to have the CD changer laying around. I also have some old ipods laying around too haha. Where's a good place to get one for a good price?

I agree it's a modern classic but still looks great. The last of the 3 series "ragtop" cars before they went to hardtop convertible. I know there is now the 2 series ragtop but it's not the same!

Re your question (I assume you mean the DICE unit) maybe EBAY, or try a company in the USA called BAVSOUND. They sell this stuff have full DIY instructions on how to fit it including video. It's quite easy but just takes a bit of time running the cables from the rear to the front then t the armrest cubby. No need to remove the head unit. Good luck.

What is a DICE?

I added an IS77 iPod Connection to my Town Car - works great and I can tuck the connector into the ash tray that has never been used.

Man, its been so long, it appears these DICE units are no longer being sold. I tried reaching out my contacts at EAS to see what they have to offer these days. I had one in my E38 many many years ago.

Discontinued by BMW some time ago. There is one available on EBay.

That $20 CD changer bracket it looking more enticing right now hahah. That accompanied with the Aux is probably all I need since this is just a weekend car for me.
