Since there are a lot of misfire threads, i would like to give my 2 cents to help some people.
Most people don't explain it detailed but, i'm gonna explain it in detail so bear with me.
It worked on my car,
so if you have the same crap i had down below. (text, not something else)
This will do it for you in most cases, if it doesn't then your problem lies IN your engine.
And then, sucks to be you.
I have a 330ci 08-2001 manual 5 speed euro spec 180.000km/111.801miles.
My car was having a lot of misfires. Misfires on ALL cilinders 1 to 6. (1 faultcode; misfire on cilinder 1 - 6)
But...no engine code light, never!
Really high fluctuations on all cilinders, compression wise.
It was like driving a tractor, only mine was even slower lol.
It wouldn't go further then 2000 rpm.
Because the software wasn't giving my cilinders any fuel to prevent more damage.
The weird issue was when i started the car and i left it idle, the car would go tractor on me.
But when i started the car up and immediatly drove away there was nothing wrong, the car was doing its normal thing.
Only difference was, that my fuel economy was really bad.
It was around 20mpg to 23 at its best.
A lot of people will say that that is normal, but it isn't.
A good operating 330 should be doing around 25 to 28 with ease!
So i went searching like crazy on the web.
This is what i did before finding the solution;
New spark plugs, improved fuel economy a Bit, still same faults.
New disa, didn't do anything because the old one wasn't busted.
New upper and lower intake boots, yes they were ripped, but i didn't have any idle problems to start with anyway.
I did the ccv check with a plastic bag, but that was just dandy, nothing there.
I replaced my valve cover gasket VCG, had some oil leaks, but didn't do aything for the misfire problem.
I did a engine flush, didn't do a thing.
I changed my oil to castrol edge 0w-30 and replaced my oil filter, still nothing.
I checked/swapped my coils, i have bosch versions stock, it didn't do nothing.
There were no other fault codes except the code; misfire on all cilinders 1 - 6
So in a last attempt.
I unplugged my maf and there was no change.
Because!
Remember what i said, when i started the car and drove away immediatly that the car would run fine but still with misfire codes...
So if your engine runs fine to the Eye, unplugging the maf wont do squat.
Finally i unplugged the maf after starting the car and letting it idle.
Remember, that i said when doing so the car would run like a tractor.
So when unplugging the maf in the tractor state the engine would go running smooth again.
So, i changed my maf although (again) my software didn't give ANY maf fault codes of it being broken or what so ever!
A new maf at the dealer here is 514 US dollar..
Everything is perfect now. It runs great.
My fuel economy went to 27.32 mpg ALLROUND (city and highway).
32.3 mpg on the highway at 100kph/60mph ~2500rpm 5th gear.
~30 mpg on the highway at 120 kph/75mph ~ 3000 rpm 5th gear.
FIY, I run on octane 95.
Changing my maf to a new maf did the trick for me.
Altough there weren't any fault codes on various faultcode readers.
I had 3 different diagnoses with 3 different softwares, which one of them was the dealers'.
Also you could try cleaning your maf.
Only imho it will maybe! run better then it was, but it will never run as good as with a new maf.
On a sidenote.
I took my baseball bat and smashed the old maf into orbit.
And it felt great!
Yeah im on crazy pills, you can't have what im having unless you go through i went through lol.
I hope this helps you all.
