Ask a fluid mechanics/medical device engineer anything...

Slow day at work today so I'm bored and I always appreciated the AMA threads from other guys on here as a good learning so thought I'd pay it forward.

I'm a design engineer for cardiac (and others but mostly cardiac) medical devices with a specialty in fluid mechanics/aerodynamics.

While I don't really do anything directly with aero anymore I can probably still answer most questions. If not, I can probably put together a BS answer that sounds about right.

Obviously can't divulge any confidential company information but I'll do my best.

Credentials:
BSME
MSME Fluid mechanics

Ask away.

Depends on how far away from the fence you are. Also, if you're in such dire need of peeing that you can't find any other possible patch of land or water on the planet that isn't occupied by an electric fence, I'd just piss your pants.

Do you get to observe the packaging operations for the medical devices?

Since you are a design engineer, are you strictly designing or do you partake in the actual product development of new products?

What part of the packaging operation? There are many steps taken to package and ensure long term sterility so there are quite a few steps between completed device and on the shelf. I don't participate directly in packaging but I've seen enough of it to be able to answer some questions.

I do both the technology and product development. I'm guessing you mean to ask about procedure concept development? Those are typically done by physicians and other more highly educated and specialized people.

There's always more pee...

The need for a device like this would mean there has been a complete failure in the cardiac conduction system (not common but not unheard of) and there are substantial issues with your cardiac tissue. Also, I haven't yet heard how this thing is powered...

this does not relate to fluids.....but if you mounted a wind turbine to the space station, or a satellite and rotated the blades to their maximum speed to generate electricity. Would they rotate indefinitely and basically provide free energy ? There is no friction in space to slow down the blades......just wondering.

No, while there is no air resistance in space there absolutely is still mechanical friction in the bearings/generators/etc...

There's no such thing as free energy or perpetual motion machines. Because physics.

what is the greatest trend in medical technology now ?

nanotechnology developing multi cell robots, remote operating devices where doctors operate 1k miles away or is there something else ?
