Really nice! Assuming it shows as well in person as it does in the pics, it seems pretty fairly priced. Classic E46 color combo.

Agree with what Evan said about the automatic issue though. YMMV.

If it were manual I'd have already bought it!! I've never owned a manual (but grew up driving my moms), I'm split on what to get. May just need to keep holding out.. I have yet to find a Tiag/Black sedan as clean as this in over 2 months of looking

If it were a manual it'd also be considerably more expensive.

Would. I don't mind the auto, especially if you do lots of stop and go driving.

Not just this zhp but in general those looking for E46's with the sport/performance package will want a manual.

As for the gray interior in this zhp, i don't like it and i believe is the least liked interior. From reading the ad i can see both good and bad things about it:

The good:

* Serviced at BMW dealer until 90K. Catch here is if seller does not have records, those ****ers at BMW don't like to release them
* Cooling system done
* valve cover gasket done
* Brakes and rotors done
* Some suspension parts included in sale

I paid $600 for parts for redoing my cooling system and was quoted ~$1,500 at an indy, so all this work is easily worth a $2-3K done at an indy/dealer

The Bad:
* Oil pan gasket leak. While small at the moment (it doesn't leak to the ground because there's a plastic cover under the car) eventually you'll have to get it done and it's about $800-$1000
* Burns a quart every 2-2.5K miles. That simply should not happen at only 114K miles

Pretty sure this car has been on sale for a while, so there's gotta be a good reason for it.

Very good breakdown, thanks!! It doesn't say anything about an OFHG done so I bet thats where the oil is being "burnt". That or the rear main seal

I can't seem to justify the 9k he wants for this car

That's not crazy consumption, especially for a M54B30. Wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me.

Interesting. I'm far from expert on anything cars, but i thought at only 114K it should not burn oil. 200K sure, but not now.

Either way something must be up with the car because it's been sitting for a long time. Well maintained / taken care of (like this seems to be) zhp's don't hang around too long.

Well I'm an old rotary guy, so I'm used to a little oil consumption.

I check my oil weekly and top up as necessary. If it gets too egregious, or a leak is obvious, I'll address it, but I've no issue topping it up from time to time. YMMV.

Same. I burn a quart every 1500, just kind of used to it from my e28 535i.

update on this: i punched in the VIN, it's saying it's actually an 9/02 model.. other sites are saying 03? it may mean it has the ZF auto. can anyone confirm? I've bugged the owner with enough questions, don't want to ask him to get under the car

It's a New Jersey car so look for rust.

edit: ran the VIN and it's been in Cali since 2005, should be fine actually.

What happened to the red needles?

**EDIT** Nevermind, didn't read the whole ad. Just looked at the picture.

^That is odd. Here are the relevant options from the VIN decoder:

Quote:
S710 M sports steering wheel, multifunction
S716 Aerodynamics package
S760 High gloss shadow line
S767 Performance Package
S772 Interior moldings Alu Black Cube
S775 Headlining anthracite
S787 BMW alloy wheel, M double spoke 135

^on that ZHP -- The fact that owner takes it through a drive thru car wash kind of speaks volumes for the stuff he didn't do--like the work... himself. Which means he only did stuff that was absolutely necessary... which means it's a turtle wax BMW. Not enthusiast maintained--it looks pretty but will need heaps of stuff to perform optimally. Needs an immediate 3 grand upon purchase.

Go away. Your anecdotal evidence is of no value.

SMG, High miles and ugly front aftermarket headlights but what do you think about this for the price?

As someone who is considering going at looking at the car in question, the anecdotal advice is of use to me. I like his perspective on the car and have been wondering why the car hasn't sold in the month its been for sale.

Just because you dont get any use out of what mango said in this thread, or in general, doesn't mean nobody does
