Cats and dogs are ghey. An S2000 is the only animal you will ever need.

OP here with a sorta-update

We are going home this weekend. My wife and I decided we were going to go through with the plan, but are worried that Dad isn't on board anymore. It was a mistake to mention the thought of doing this to him last month, but hindsight is always 20/20. At this point we have to determine if we should double down on the lies, put the cat down and then lie to dad about doing it, or just let the whole thing go and let nature take its slow, painful course.

At this point I think the cat is weeks or at most a few months away from death, so I'm leaning towards just riding it out and hope it passes soon.

Hm. I'd be worried that Dad would throw you under the bus at some future point.

Yeah at this point I'd just let it run its course, few more days (maybe a couple weeks) of this, or your mother being pissed at you for God knows how long.

Tell dad that the story is the cat ran it's course and if dad doesn't keep quiet, he might run the same course.

There's always the old "let me show the cat my car" gambit:

Thread update.

Mom decided the time had come. After she carried the cat around the yard for several hours to "smell all the flowers," a private in-home service came and put the cat to sleep. She cradled her in her arms and sobbed for over an hour.

Buttercup was gone after 18 years an 4 months in our lives, but will live forever in our hearts. She will be cremated and placed in an urn on my mom's makeup table next to the other 3 cats that went before her.

Wow, my mom really is crazy.

Wait, you hired a service to kill a cat??

America is truly becoming the land of the weak.

What are the odds your mom ends up wearing the dead cat on her face?

Okay yeah, that's a tad weird... It could be worse, she could be smoking crack.
