Need some input on some snowballing ideas

So I've had an M52 sitting on a stand for almost a year now. It's stripped down and ready to go to the machine shop. I was going to rebuild it with a cut ring and arp studs to drop in my e36. A few months ago I picked up a very clean e46 for next to nothing and I've been going back and forth on which to keep and what to do. I think I finally settled on an idea and needed some input. My idea is to use the M52 bottom end with an M54 head, still using the cut ring and ARP studs. I need to know what the difference is between the two motors is, especially when it comes to ordering parts, gaskets, etc. My biggest reason for doing this is I already have the M52 bottom and it's slightly larger and stronger, and my brother happens to have an M54 (2.5) head. I'm assuming the cost will be about the same for parts and machining. My other question is has anyone ever swapped an Xi drivetrain into an e46 coupe? Boosted 6spd AWD would be fun! Can the Xi drivetrain handle 500hp?

The dual Vanos M54 head will not work with the single Vanos M52 block. The coolant passages between the head and the block are in VERY different places and the coolant flow in the M54 motors is backwards from the single Vanos M50/M52 based motors.
