Need tires. Thinking of getting new wheels...specs?

I've got a 2001 330xi. I need new tires, badly. I don't drive a ton so it's been quite some time since I've been shopping.

I've also considered just buying another set of wheels on Craigslist with lots of tread left on the tires.

I'm really confused by a lot.

Primarily offset and knowing if a wheel I find will work with my car. I've got 235/40/R18 now, but I might go back to 17s for ride quality if I can find them.

Will 16s fit on a 330xi?

How do I know what offset is compatible? Like if I buy rims from a 2008 3 or 5 series.

Anyone know anything about a Sentry tire? I know they probably aren't the greatest, but it's $350 with labor for 4 new tires.

I'd prefer a quiet, comfortable ride with good wet traction and NO flat spotting.

Any suggestions?

I think with 330 brakes the smallest you can go is 17, but i think there were some 16s that could fit?

245/40/17 square is the 17 i run 17x8.5
255/35/18 square the 18 i run 18x8.5

both are comfortable enough

try willtheyfit.com too play with different wheel and tire specs to find what fitment you like

I like continental dws if you only want one set of wheels for all the seaons

and i use nokian hakkapellita r2 for the winter now though

and the summer i use federal 595rsr

I found someone selling these. I'm wondering if ride quality will improve going from my 18" M6 reps to these or if it's just the tire that makes a difference...

I kinda wish I never got reps, this may be a chance back to OE BMW.

The M6 rep rims I have now are 18's with 235/40/R18 tires (245 maybe). I have Nitto Neogen tires now and they came with the used M6 rep rims I bought in like 2009 (I don't drive much anymore). They're pretty much bald now.

The style 285's are 17" and I'm not sure of the tire size.

I'm wondering how much difference ride quality will make between the 17's and 18's...

Either way I need new tires. I'm just wondering if the more expensive tires are really worth it. Pricing on tires doubles pretty quickly. I'm really not interested in spending $1000+ on tires. I do almost zero spirited driving so spending oodles of money seems crazy.

Mount your style 285's because they will fit great, then buy 4 225/45 17's for them. your new ride comfort will be better.

Thats sort of what I'm thinking. I don't own the 285's. They are on CL for $300 and I'm thinking of getting them and selling the M6 reps.
