Lost my only key e46

Hi guys, today I lost my only key. My ecu is tuned and also has an EWS delete.. anyway I can get a key cut to my vin number to just fit my car's key holes (not from the dealer), or will I have to buy the whole key, locks, trunk lock and glove box lock on eBay or should I just suck it up and get a new key at the dealership?

It is the best solution and should be about $180.

I mean I don't mind the one payment of that and just get copies of them somewhere since I have the EWS delete. $230-$300 isn't much compared to what we put into our cars in repairs alone lol

I think the person is Sean at the BMWMiniPartstore.com or something like this.

Get a Valet key for like $50, then you can get some cheap ebay keys and cut them based on the valet key.

You can also modify a valet key to open the trunk with a Dremel tool or some other way to cut the groove on the key spine deeper.

I thought Sean was from thebmwpartstore, which no longer seems to exist, unless it moved to bmwminipartstore.

I bought one from eEuroParts.com for $179.99 with a promo code so I paid $174 and I'll program it myself once I get the key. Should be here the 24th of April. I placed the order on the 13th of April.

I misplaced my key some where and now it is lost. I've changed my DME, EMU and KEY ignition a while back to a Used replacement parts i got from EBAY (the parts i bought is from a 2001 330XI) because my DME had an issue and i wasn't able to start car so my VIN number doens't match the used DME/EMU and KEY Ignition since it's not the original. what should i do? Should i tell them (dealership) my DME serial number?

How should i go about with this?

The BMW dealer will not be able to order you a custom key like that. This is one of the few cases where AK90 route makes sense for getting a key that will start the engine, but, don't know about the cut on the blade. I assume you swapped the lock cylinders with the DME/EWS. Then you will need to get a whole new lock set. It might be easiest to go back on eBay and buy another whole set again.

Thanks for your insight. Yes I changed the key cylinder as well. I'm assuming the only way for me to get that cylinder out is to remove the steering column and order another from eBay.

Sucks...

The ONLY reason you started a thread is because you are CHEAP (like me) or otherwise you would have already ordered one from bmw. Now, the cheap way is to get the PLASTIC key (like someone mentioned), it's about $60. I know because I have one and it will open your locks and start the car. It's not meant to be used everyday though.

Are you talking to me? I wasn't trying to be cheap. My old key with the old setup had issues where I couldn't start my car. So I had to purchase from a donor off eBay since a donor dme requires a donor key that works for it. My car started up with the swap. It has been 4 years but this week I lost the key randomly. Maybe my age is catching up to me. I'm not sure.

If you don't mind me asking. Where can I get this key? You stated from the poster above. But maybe you can shine some light on how it actually works or the process.

I just want to get in my car and start it up and change everything and make xtra set of keys for it so I don't have to worry about losing one.

Talking at the person that created this thread. Buy the plastic key at the dealership. Even though it works for everything, some say the door locks are made for "remote" operation not MANUAL operation. Just don't RAMROD it.

You can use the plastic key to get additional blanks cut and can remove the immobilizer chip from it to place into a new (eBay) key fob. A locksmith near me recently charged $35 to cut the blade.

Don't worry about being called cheap, I think buying a $300 key from Germany is a massive ripoff too.
