Looks like "The President" has just dropped the first MOAB ever used in combat in Afghanistan. Please, oh please discuss.

I did look at the horizon for the mushroom cloud, but couldn't see it in the distance, even with a long-lensed digital camera...

Sooo what does this have to do with the President?

"The military is currently assessing the damage. Gen. John Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan, signed off on the use of the bomb, according to the sources. Authority had to be sought from Gen. Joseph Votel, commander of US Central Command."

My mistake. I should have said the "Commander in Chief," who will soon tweet and take credit for teaching those ISIS goons a lesson...

To put things into perspective, this MOAB was .07% as powerful as the Hiroshima atomic bomb, and .0009% as powerful as the the largest nuke currently in the US arsenal.

Edit: picture of MOAB for reference

Ooook, again what does this have to do with the CiC? Gen. Joseph Votel is a 4 star General. Do you think every combat decision comes from the CiC? The President or some staff were briefed at best.

The President is still responsible for what the military does under him, right?

Obama didn't kill Bin Laden but he gets credit. Bush didn't fight Saddam, but he gets credit. Sit in the office, get the credit and the blame for what your underlings do. That's how being in charge works.

Whether someone wants to consider this event something to get "credit" or "blame" for us up to them, though I'm sure there are plenty of people lining up behind each side of that.

I'm sure they just surprise-dropped the largest non-nuclear weapon that we have and let him know after the fact. Because that would make sense, right? I'm sure he also only knew that we did a tamahawk strike after it already happened.

From what I've read, it looks like it was dropped in support of ongoing combat actions there by American and Afghan forces to destroy a series of underground ISIS tunnels and bunkers. I'd rather see something like this than sending in a bunch of foot soldiers to try to clear out those tunnels and bunkers.

You all know what this means right? It's just the beginning for them to drop a real nuke later. Can't wait!

I'm betting here's something coming out in the news that's embarrassing for the WH (more humiliating than Spicer's Passover bumble) that called for a distraction... And this is what they came up with

I don't see why this is very newsworthy. Dropping a few dozen would get some clicks.

A lot more effective than diplomacy was.
