/////Replacement Headlight Lenses & Differences? Xenon vs Halogen Lenses

http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-330...ghts/ES172830/

http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-330...ghts/ES173244/

I have OEM HIDs.
What's the difference between the halogen lenses and the xenon ones? Obviously I would go for the xenon ones but they don't even look different?

Who has them cheapest?

Edit: I guess one is glass and the other is not, I have a 2001 330Ci but they don't really seem like glass, are they ALL glass for the 2001 Xenons, they look plastic to me?

I replaced my plastic lenses last winter on my 99 E46 with Xenons.

They look great!

Got mine here:

i ordered headlight lens replacements from khoalty a couple days ago, $72 for the pair. i don't think there is a difference in lenses between halogen and xenon. if there is then i may end up with the wrong ones

But that's an OEM part for prefacelift that are made of glass... I guess it doesn't matter which ones I get then?

are there any advantages by using glass over plastic? it looks like BMW only used glass on some early production cars pre '01

They are NOT glass.

None of them are glass, NONE. NO BMW after the year 1995 (if I'm not mistaken had glass headlights or taillights). Why? > too expensive, NOT safe and in some cases impossible. Its not like an E30 headlight which is round and is very very simple to mold, newer BMW have very complex headlight shape(even E36 had plastic covers where only the inside bowls were glass) I bet its almost impossible to mold glass headlights in E46 shape or any other never BMW. Thats why they are plastic, thats why plastic is replacing so many parts in a BMW, because its cheaper, stronger, safer and easier to use/make complex shapes.

I know about mold making and plastic molding because its what I studied in College.

Now why they are different prices, even thought both are listed as Genuine BMW, that I dont know. It has different manufacturer part numbers so its probably different suppliers, I have no other explanation .

Yeah I figured that, but the whole "xenon version" and "halogen version" threw me off because I figured they were the same; thanks.
