Obama starts Hawaiian vacation, leaving Washington on ice

I would like to politely point out to you that the agreement they made last night is only valid for 2 months until we run out of money. Then they start all over again unless they want to raise the debt ceiling, which I read on one occasion that they want it to go up by another 3.9 TN.


But Obama is not around to take your calls. He is headed back to Hawaii. He left last night. The trip on Air Force One will take 18 hours.

While you boast about the political success of your illegal immigrant and illegally seated POTUS, you and I will be paying an average of $1635 more in taxes this year.

And Congress still got a pay raise.

Illegally seated POTUS? do explain... and I hope it isn't birther nonsense. Last time I checked he was voted into office...twice.

Secondly, I don't mind taxes being raised if it pays off the deficit. From what I understand, both party's plans had tax raises. Now they need to reign in Govt spending.

I'm worried about the government spending. Taxes will be raised...great, now on to the main course...trimming that government fat. I have a feeling they won't be serious about it and will brush it under the rug over time hoping they can get away with it.

Agreed about kicking the can down the road. The debt ceiling is the real debate that's yet to happen in an effective manner with sustainable solutions. However, it's better than nothing because without the deal passed before the 1st, millions of middle and lower income people would have automatically started to pay higher taxes and would have initiated a slow double-dip recession.

Just look at how the stock market reacted today - if anyone had any common sense, they would have made a small windfall in a matter of seconds this morning.

So you can't blame Obama and the Senate for passing something in spite of Congress.

The President was not back from his vacation, he was merely taking a break from a vacation to look after urgent business. Which reiterates what I've said before - as POTUS, you never get to take a vacation and chill out on a beach like the Hollywood types. You're working most if not all the time. You're merely in a different place with different people, but you're still working..

This is true. But vacationing in Hawaii all the way from D.C, does not look good.
It's not the vacation. It's because he went to Hawaii and it is so far away. If he had gone to Camp David or Orlando, it would not have been so bad.

Stop implying pity on Obama and congress. They took the jobs and they can take the responsibilities. American citizens and this country should be top priority for them regardless of how much vacation they have had. When they actually accomplish something worthwhile then I may budge. Until then they can enjoy all the benefits that one enjoys for simply being a politician that the majority of us don't.

I was impressed at how they tried to work together but pissed off at the fact they waited until the last moment and then quickly hashed something temporarily together. It's like half assing a paper at the last minute and expecting to get an A.

The worst part is that they keep passing these temporary measures claiming that its just so a permanent deal can be struck before the next "fiscal cliff". Then, when the next one comes about, both houses and parties yell back and forth about who's fault it is that a deal hasn't been made, and they take it up until the very last possible minute in order to throw together some new sh1tty temporary measure, claiming that they'll do something permanent before the next time.

I'm so ashamed of everybody sitting on Capitol Hill right now. And the president. It's absolutely shameful how ineffective out congress has become. These guys all need to be fired and replaced with rational people who are actually concerned with getting things done in a timely manner and making reasonable compromises based in reality.

Congress was better at compromising in the years before the Civil War than they are right now.

No, I don't mind the POTUS taking time off, but what I'm disappointed with is the deal, or rather just kicking the can down the road. This debt issue is no secret, and they've had plenty of time to compromise and cut spending. However, it's always at the last minute where a deal is struck which results in postponement.

In sum, disappointed. I hope lawmakers and the POTUS make it their main effort this term to solve this issue.

In for next fiscal cliff last minute temporary "deal" in D - 60
