Need recommendations for a new phone.

I say "new", but I should say "new to me". And I'm well aware there is a "Which Android phone would you buy?" thread, but it's all about the newest stuff. I was planning to get a Pixel XL, but I think every upgrade I've had access to has been used for the time being and I'm somewhat impatient.

Now... onto the criteria...
  • Android (duh)
  • Verizon network
  • LTE
  • $200-ish
  • Removable battery is a plus
  • SD card slot is a plus

I currently have a Galaxy S4 and, for what it's worth, it's been a good phone. It is starting to have some trouble staying connected to LTE networks where other phones have zero issues. I've been eyeballing the S5 ($190 new) and the S6 ($210 refurbished), but if there are better options out there, I'm open to suggestions.

All help is appreciated.

P.S.: Considering I'm posting this to E46FOT, I can only expect the best of responses.

Just ask the local crack dealer down the street what your options are considering your....price.

I'd suggest whatever Nexus you can afford. 5X you can get for $200ish; 6P is more like $300...using numbers I just saw on Swappa.

I have the Droid Moto Z Force and am quite happy with the battery life (primary reason for buying) and camera (secondary reason) which is actually up-gradable with a "Moto Mod". The battery is not removable, but one of the Moto Mods extends the already impressive battery life of the phone.

There are plenty more in-depth reviews on the interwebs if you should you have any more technical questions.

Google, bro.

The Pixel is the best Android phone you can buy right now, by a large margin. Best phone period according to some reviewers.

Not worth skimping out on something you'll use everyday for years.

As a former Nexus 5X user, I can't give it a strong recommendation. It's slow, and very annoying at times. On the other hand, buying an old Samsung is probably the worst thing you can do.

Financing/buying outright on a new, cheaper plan > 'upgrades' on the old plans.

The upgrades were just a carrot they dangled in front of you to get you to pay more over time. Things are better now.

I'd say cough up the extra $100-$150 and get a Nexus 6P.

Besides, $27/month for a Pixel is a much better deal than some POS phone for $200.

If you really want removable storage and battery you are limiting yourself to maybe 5 phones made in the last couple of years.

At your price point the LG G3 might fit the bill... Great screen and camera, solid specs, removable battery and an SD card slot. I had it before I went to a Nexus 6p and was very happy with it.
Avoid the LG G4, they were plagued with issues to the point that LG basically pulled them from the market. They are super cheap on ebay for a reason...

I'd do a better upgrade then the S5.

S6
V10
If you want to spend more v20

I've got a G4.. If I could get my hands on a Pixel from Google I'd sell you it.

While 6p is a good phone and maybe he could be swayed... But doesn't quite fit his criteria

That, or grab a Samsung from Costco.

There are 2 variants from $199 - $299 the stores around here have.

The removable battery is a dead feature. It's the new physical keyboard.

Cost of a phone on contract is irrelevant.
OP could get the latest / greatest phone if that's what he meant by spending $200.

What happens when you drop your Pixel and shatter the screen a week / month later?
