Swapped headlight bulbs. Passenger side still going out.

Passenger side bulb intermittently going out.
I get the warning light on the dash.

I swapped the driver's and passenger bulb.
Passenger side bulb still intermittently going out.
So, it's not the bulb.

What's my next step?
Ballast? Ignitor? I have zero clue about any of these parts.
Do I buy a new one? Both? Part number?
How hard are these to replace?

Try swapping out the ignitors. If it turns on then that's your problem.

If not, could be a wiring fault. May be a loose connection, ground or corroded bulb socket.

I'm having trouble finding a DIY for how to replace the ballast.
I don't even know where it is.
Also, anyone have a part number?
I only want OEM (or junkyard replacment, if deeply discounted)

Did you try what I said regarding the ignitors?

Don't just order things because it may not even be the problem.

Maybe not the same problem as the Adaptive Bi-Xenons, might want to at least look at this problem - http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1121315

Is it stupid to buy a new $70 aftermarket ballast?

Is it stupid to buy a used ballast for $30?
I see a new ballast for $150 or so.

Ok, I will swap the ignitors.
My attitude is that if I am going to take the time to remove something, I'd rather just replace it if it's a common wear item.
So, I almost prefer to just drop the $150 if I've got a 50%+ chance that is the issue.

Is swapping ignitors like an easy scale DIY?
Under 1 hour? If so, I guess I will swap before buying.

I'll take a 2nd look at the wires, but everything is clean and intact, if I recall.

I switched ballasts today.
That was more of a PITA than I Was expecting.

First, the retaining bracket would not come off easily because of the clip on the bottom side.

Then I realized I needed to remove the entire carrying bracket in order to free the ignitor cable.
Getting those tiny bolts on and off on passenger side was a PITA with the A/C lines in the way. Magnet tool was a savior.

Then I realized I needed to also disconnect the other bulbs to clear the wires clearance.

I did not tuck the cables back like OEM when I reassembled.

For $50, I should have just replaced the passenger ballast instead of hassling with swapping.
Now, I will drive with my lights on and see if the problem switches to the other side.

Do I need the exact same Ballast model number?

Mine says 5DV 007 760-29

This new one from China says
5DV-007-760-37

Are aftermarket ones to be avoided?
Is the last number just a version that can be updated?

Should I just buy a used one for $50 ?

Ok, the driver's light is now giving the warning light.
So, time to buy a ballast.
