Different size expansion tank upper nipples?

I replaced a Behr from BMA with a tank from bmw north in Houston. We made the swap then after coolant shot out the upper hose nipple, we found the bmw tank was 3/100s under the Behr.

Should I have known this? The Behr was installed in April 2014 the size changed in three years?

Thoughts?
Thanks.

Are there part numbers on them that you can compare?

I will get those tomorrow.

Different manufacturers means different numbers, correct?

My cheapest out would be a dealer spec upper hose I guess. The Behr I had failed under pressure(this is almost a neighborhood car; I live a neighborhood life!).

Thanks for the response.

No, the size of the nipple didn't change over the years, the manufacturing tolerances are out of spec. Never buy cheeeeep aftermarket cooling system parts! Buy parts made by the suppliers to BMW! These are called OEM parts. Go to www.realoem.com to get the part #s. Then head over to fcpeuro to buy OEM cooling system parts. Oh, and use BMW coolant and DISTILLED water.

Called the stealers hip this morning(where I bought the part)and they asked if it was ordered by vin number and I had to say I didn't know.

As soon as I finish my Cheerios I'll go check numbers and post back.

Tank is #17-11-7-573-781.

I went to the dealer and bought an upper hose #17-12-7-510-952. This wasn't included when I ordered all my parts four years ago so maybe we picked one up at the auto parts house(probably non-bmw).

My friend fit the new hose on five different tanks and we noticed there was some looseness but he thought when things heated up it would hold.

We shall see.

Thanks guys.
