Cost to ship a car

I am buying a new Mazda 6. The dealer says there are only 3 in the entire southeast in the color combo I want. The cars are in FL and VA.

They offered to hire a driver to drive it in. No thanks, I don't want hundreds of miles on my new car before I take delivery. I asked them to get a quote to ship the car on a truck.

Anyone have experience with this, and know how much this should cost? I have no idea of the cost, and don't want to get ripped off.

car shipping cost varies
the biggest factor being FUEL COST
and another big factor being popularity of the route

i shipped my car from CA to VA and then VA to CA a few years later
it cost significantly less when I was shipping from VA to CA because fuel cost was cheaper on that return trip and trucks headed to CA are more abundant than trucks headed to VA

i have to ask...
is a mazda 6 worth the extra cost and hassle of arranging a truck?

edit - I paid something like $850-880 shipping open truck from CA to VA
about $700? shipping open truck from VA to CA
other than being dirty, my car did not suffer any damage from either trips

I purchased an 02 330 in VA and had it shipped to CT. I paid for a closed carrier for $700. The I called the dealer to tell them, they made me wait four extra days to detail it because of a few "issues" . Basically once they couldn't use the excuse of open carrier they fixed the scratched and whatever else (who knows how bad it was) .

Another time I shipped my cads 2 cars to FL from CT open carrier at his request, $400 each. They arrived with scratched and a dent on the roof.

I paid ~$700 to ship a car from FL to CT, but it was open carrier, which i imagine is double that if you want enclosed. Since you're much closer in GA i'd expect you can have it shipped for under a grand in an enclosed carrier.

The sales manager gave me a "ballpark" of $1k over the phone. I don't know if that was enclosed, open, or what. I assume enclosed or flatbed. Online quote calculators are saying $350-450 on a shared open carrier, before any fees.

Mazda's total market share is about 2%. Manual transmission market share is about 5%, even less for family sedans like the 6. The car I want has a non-black interior which is apparently also uncommon. Fck, for all I know this could be a 1 of 10 car for 2017! Haha

I'm keeping this car for 8-10 years so I don't mind paying a few hundred bucks extra to get exactly what I want. If I were buying an automatic, each Mazda dealer probably has 2 or 3 in this color combo on the lot right now, and I wouldn't be bothering with all this.

Can you order it? Probably take 2-3 months to build if you have the time

Is it cheaper to buy a 1-way flight and drive it back?

I think one of the things he wanted to do was keep miles off the car.

Assuming the other dealer will give me the same deal - maybe, maybe not. But then I have to kill a whole 1-2 days flying up and driving back.

Shipped a car from TX to CA, open trailer... like $350-400. got lucky, signed up for open trailer, they had another space on the closed carrier at no additional charge. No issues.

Also shipped a car in an open trailer, arrived dirty but no issues.

If you can drive it to a train yard I know shipping by train is dirt cheap. A friend of a friend shipped an old mustang from Vermont to FL for less than $300 IIRC

You can still buy it through your local dealer and then just go get it. It won't be any different than the transport company going there to pick it up.

Also, why keep miles off the Mazda? That's what it's for...

Except the transport assh0le will probably scratch the paint, fart in the seat, and bang the bumper....
