DSC and brake light issue(codes included)

So, a week ago when I did my rear shocks/springs and RTABs, the DSC and brake light illuminated in yellow after about 20 miles drive.

My guess was, since I did the RTABs the alignment must have been off and once I get the alignment it will be alright.

Checked the codes with PA soft:

ABS* -> 5E40/E0 - Steering angle sensor Signal not plausible, Offset.

LEW -> 09/CF - No CAN message (ASC)

This week I got my front coilovers done and got alignment yesterday.

The alignment is good, but the brake and DSC lights are still ON (yellow).

Clearing the codes and reset the steering angle values.

LEW code went off, but the ABS code still remains.

ABS* -> 5E40/E0 - Steering angle sensor Signal not plausible, Offset.

Steps I did:
-Of course, tried to clear codes using PA soft. Unsuccessful.
-Full lock from left to right and right to center. Unsuccessful.
-Removed the battery for sometime. Unsuccessful.
-Restarted the ABS unit. Unsuccessful.

The steering wheel is straight and the car drives straight.

Is it a coincidence that the sensor went bad immediately after the RTAB install?

Or shall I get someone with INPA or GT1 to clear it? As PAsoft definitely didnt succeed. Although, it looks like people were successful in clearing the code in e39s.

I will remove the wheels tomorrow and check if I can the speed sensors cleaned. But it seems like its a myth. Doesnt hurt to try.

The only sensors I unplugged were the two on the driver's side rear.
And they are plugged in properly.

Is there a way I can test which one is bad? I mean if not physically damaged?
If anything is damaged I will definitely hit you up for the ones you have.
Not sure if the M3 and 325 use the same sensors.

Im not sure on how you can do a test maybe someone will chime in and help with that, and the speed sensors are not for the M3, I bought them thinking they were the same and sure enough they are not so they fit the regular 3 series.

No, speed sensors give you a different code. There is a procedure for checking the steering angle sensor. There is a way to see it's current value in INPA (like testing a windows joystick) and a way to adapt it (like calibrating a windows joystick).

Also, speed sensors can be read individually in INPA.

Why would you take things apart when you can simply have the car plugged in and read?!

DSC and brake light issue(codes included)

Thanks guys. The codes cleared up.
After I calibrated the steering angle sensor I went for a drive. After about 50 miles the lights went off. Will run the scan again later once I get home to see if there are any hidden codes.

So for anyone with this code pop up. Get am alignment, calibrate the steering angle sensor and drive for sometime.

If you go in the LEW section in Pasoft. You have an option to reset or something similar.

Once you have your alignment done, keep your steering wheels and front wheels straight. And calibrate using the Pasoft or INPA.

It should take care of it unless the sensor is broken.

Thanks for the info!

I just did my coil overs, brakes lines and bushings/ball joints and had all three lights come on.

Will be doing alignment tomorrow or Tuesday and then take it out for a drive and see if they clear up.

So after alignment, and 300+ miles, all three (DSC, BRAKE, ABS) stay on. I calibrated the steering angle via PA Soft and tried the 50mile again... Still light on. Gonna swap sped sensors as the front driver side is active error code and then will report back.

Re: DSC and brake light issue(codes included)

I only have the dsc & brake (yellow in color). And dont have any codes for speed sensor. I will take it back the shop again and see if they can fix it.

guys i know this has been a while, but i finally got around to replacing my wheel speed sensor. put the car back down on the ground, pulled out of the driveway, and as i drove past two houses down the street, the ABS light turned off, then the yellow BRAKE and shortly after the DSC light. all within driving less than 1/4 of a mile. so happy and glad i didnt have to use the scan tool or drive 50miles like mentioned in other threads.

Same issue and I don't see how to reset it with PA Soft either. There was another post about resetting it http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1024742, but my hex already has my VIN (because I never changed the actual part), so I am not sure how to tackle this.
