Yeah, i did have a e36 evo a few years back. Was an awesome little car, it put a smile on ya face every time you drove it. But, had to sell it to pay the mortgage.
Now i want to upgrade to a e46, but it has turned into a disaster trying to find a good one.
Cheers.

Budget - Up to the high 40's for a mint low km's car. But, looking to spend about 35-40k for a good example.

Colour/interior - I am after a low key colour combo. So want to avoid all the bright colours.
Colour - I like carbon black, some of the dark blues, all the greys, steel grey etc.....
Interior - I like black nappa and the M textured cloth.

Cool mate. Should be able to find something in your range.

I'd be tempted (depending if you are mechanically minded) to pick up a mint smg for fair bit cheaper and get the manual swap done... or you might even end up liking the smg hehe

A good smg probably wont go cheaply either. Shev don't lose hope just keep an eye out they come up here and there. Does anyone know how many by color exactly where brought into Australia by bmw, maybe someone has this information.

Shev im in the same boat as you.

Thinking of getting this one and manual swapping as its pretty clean. Maybe we can go for a double conversion for discount haha

Sherweeeny, yep just been thinking the same thing. Might go and take a look at a smg this weekend.
Starting to think the manual unicorn is not going to happen, I've been looking now for 2 years!!! Maybe it is better to have an smg M3, than not at all.

About the swap - I don't think i would do it until the smg unit/pump died. I think i would do most of the work myself, bar some of the electrical stuff and programing.
If anyone has had any experience with the swap or links to diy threads feel free to chime in.
Also, what are the costs involved?
Cheers.

If you want a clean OEM finish firstly find a used 6 speed gearbox from overseas and import it here. They are not as heavy as you might think.

The next step is get a 6speed RHD vin and use realoem to cross reference the differences in parts between smg and manual. Basically any part you can get from manual version better. Pedals, piping, hoses, brackets, maybe even clutch fluid reservoir.

PM me and I will pass you a link onto a very reputable internet reseller who can get you any part for any European car Original equipment. You will be surprised what some parts really cost.

if you are definitely keen on doing the manual conversion, might be better off doing it while SMG pump is working fine... you can sell it and put $ towards the swap.

Manual conversion is the best way to go if you don't want to spend the extra $10K for a clean manual example.

As empower said, make sure you use a 6-speed RHD vin to x-reference parts etc. Mine is a factory 6-speed 2004, so I can give you my VIN if need be for a parts check etc.
