So my differential is making a ticking noise and I found out what was causing it but idk what that part is exactly. So can someone look at the picture and tell me what's rubbing against the big gear? And would the carrier with the spider gears need to be changed? It's a 3.64 diff off a 05 330ci.. There was metal grindings when I changed my diff oil...
You can not buy individual parts for the diff. Rebuilding the diff at a shop will cost you over 500$ . Go to your local salvage yard and pick up a new used diff.
3.64 gear is not a very common ratio so you would need to search a bit to get one.
Or ,for your automatic trans you could just upgrade to a more common ratio, which is 3.67 i believe ,from an x3
3.67 wouldnt be any dfferent, not that you will ever notice.
You can go upto 4.44 out of same x3 and then you will notice an improvement
Crap,i got all my numbers wrong. Anyway, look at this link and see which ratio you like best.
