About 90% of Creatine stores in your muscles. It hard to explain how it works, but basically it works as an energizer to help you workout harder & longer. It enters the bloodstream and helps your muscles contract while working out, therefore aiding in muscle mass altogether. Creatine micronized is better absorbed than the Mono.

If you want to bulk up, I suggest getting the powder form and putting it in with a whey protein drink before working out.

Protein, protein, protein.

I'd be interested to know my creatine levels since I don't supplement it however I eat mass quantities of red meat every week, around 800-1000g every 7 days so about 5g of creatine per week.

I know the usual recommendation is to take 5g of creatine mono per day...
But my 5g/week is from food sources, which will be almost fully absorbed compared with 5g of supplemented creatine which wouldn't be absorbed nearly as effectively. Curious to know if it is as effective / more effective from natural sources.

If you eat that much red meat, then you are getting a good source of Creatine. Fish also has Creatine in it. The only thing is that when it starts to store, it creates an "energy" for your muscles, so you eventually wear off that energy, so that's why people supplement with Creatine before a workout, so they know that its production is being used at that particular time.

Creatine also stores in other places of the body as well. If you supplement with it before a workout, you know you are getting the correct amount that you may need to get your muscles contracting whereas if you eat 1/2 lb. of red meat before a workout, it can be hard to tell what amount of Creatine you're actually getting.

I appreciate the lessons on creatine, but I know how it works. I just wanted testaments from people who have used creatine ethly and mono.

Great information on creatine! Since I'm about to switch from caps to powder, how do you recommend i take it? One serving before workout, one serving after? Timing?

Also I've never had pre workout protein shakes, i usually eat 3-4 eggs, a bagel, a banana, a cup of yogurt and some peanut butter for breakfast, do you think this is enough?

And lastly, I'm now debating between ON micronized creatine powder.(cheap and rated the number 2 best creatine by top10supplements.com) and "con-creat" (sp?). I've heard great things about the last one, but the ON stuff is a cheap product being ranked as the second best around by a reputable party. What do you guys recommend i use?

Edit: not bodybuilding.com also included reference to ON bring ranked 2nd best creatine

any reason you drop all that money on gainer when you could make one for cheaper and probably healthier?

Correct. It just makes it easier to keep track of when you take it.

I have creatine and decided I might as well do it.

I forget the rules of thumb but I figured I'd take it right before my workout on the way home from work. Do I take it on rest days too?
