As much as I would love to get a write up done for you guys, there's a lot of other things on my mind before it. I have two sets of midterms and a final within 11 weeks, with the addition of multiple papers. This quarter alone, I'm writing a total of 60 pages and doing a research project for 2 classes, and also taking organic chemistry and public health courses, each with 2 midterms and a final.

I know I continue to postpone when I think I'll have it done, and if it were up to me, I would not keep doing so, but as a student whose planning on applying to a competitive field, my priorities are laid out for me.

If you would rather not wait, I encourage you to find other means, as another user mentioned. I would take no offense to that, and if anything would love to see what ideas others had.

I'm sorry if this got lengthy or rude, those are not my intentions at all.

Totally understandable man, I feel you, as much as we want it, I think we all have enough decency to be understanding of basic priorities I'll still be waiting for this, and hopefully when summer rolls around, you'll be able to spend some more time finishing the write up, but if you don't see that being a possibility, just let us know so we can devote resources and support to the people who have the time/bandwidth towards R&D and a write up for this!!

Much appreciation!!
Joel

100% agree with every single word. I to will wait until summer if you find some free time to do the write up. If not hopefully we can figure out how to do this.

for whatever it's worth, I can completely relate David. I have a 330 brake upgrade video that's 80% done, a M3 seat upgrade video that's 90% done, an M3 engine mount retrofit DIY that's 60% done, and tons of ideas. But right now my law paper and my managerial accounting assignment have me only doing school work and some Fallout to keep my sanity!

Until yesterday, it's been years since I've had over 7 unread emails at a time or over 4 unread texts. I'm currently at 23 and 12 respectively :/

If OP doesn't update soon I'm going to try to figure it out myself.
Can anybody elaborate more on this...

Haha! True true. So anybody got an idea about this? What parts are required? I want to start buying the components for this mod already

To play the sound through the car's speakers it MIGHT be simply patching a pre-amp source (maybe just tap the aux input and just leave the head unit in the aux setting. I always listen to music from my phone so i would not have a problem with that) coming from the back of the head unit. The gauge cluster has a three fuses: fuse 10: Acc, on and start. Fuse 34: on and start. Fuse 43: constant power.

Using a micro controller connected to fuse 10 and 34 it will know when the key is in 'acc' and in 'on' specifically.

The micro controller can use this information to play the gong when the key is only in the 'acc' position. For additional effect could also program to play the gong for another 5 seconds after the car has been turned on.

If you had a pre-amp driver with an SD card setup on a loop. The micro controller would only have to control a relay to power the driver during specific times.

Maybe once my exams are done I'll mess around with it. I'm not too familiar with the head unit in these car's and my idea my be totally flawed.

Instead of buying specific parts, research how to patch external audio into the car's sound system. Also for those with the Harmon kardon system like myself might be different. (Is the amp in the head unit of the standard system?)

Two problems with this idea already:
1. It's piggybacking off the head unit, thus with different head units the setup would not work
2. A BIGGER problem is if your using the aux then the gong would be affected by the main volume adjust.

I'd like to see this happen, extremely busy at the moment.
