2015 Civic Type-R CRUSHES the Nurburgring.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this here yet. It didn't come up in a search, either.

It's a development car, yes, but from what I've read, they claim the performance of the actual production car should be right on par with this little piece of FWD fury.

Hmmmm... If a FWD Honda can do 7:50, I'm thinking the Focus RS ought to be in the mid-7:40's.

That guy is batsh1t crazy to drive that car that fast on a track like the ring and I love it. CTR is awesome but I'll start caring more if/when they actually sell it in the US.

The Civic Type-R will be coming to the US. It's just a matter of when, not if.

The Civic Type-R already beat the following (in no real particular order):
  • E92 M3
  • Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560-4
  • Nissan GT-R
  • E46 M3
  • 996 911 Turbo
  • Audi R8 V8

Complete list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...eife_lap_times

If Ford got the suspension right with the Focus RS, then it ought to be able to hang with the Type-R.

The looks of the type R annoy me SOOOO much. I love how the Si's look, couldn't they have done something like that? It also annoys me that it's FWD only.

If the Focus RS is mid 7:40s, I'll definitely be buying one.

I really don't see how it could lay down better times than some of those cars. There's no way it has the necessary top-end for many parts of the track to beat something like a Nissan GTR. Must've been a different route. No way it's smoking a Corvette ZR-1 either for example.

Focus RS also has real torque vectoring (clutched not brake driven) and AWD and more power. Shouldn't have a real hard time in beating this run.

This is amazing though, really goes to show what Honda is capable of when they actually try and that going fast doesn't have to cost a ton of money. Now if only American Honda would get the message and see that people would buy these up in a heartbeat and start offering them here.

It's about time that the dormant NSX/S2000 engineers woke up.

What will they think of next? RWD? And you'll notice Honda conveniently left out what tires they used - because they used race rubber. All the real production records are done on street radials. No one except for civic fanbois care.

The lap time was achieved during the final phase of pre-production testing in May 2014 by a Civic Type R development car. The development car was in a standard state of engine tune, with suspension, drivetrain, exhaust, brakes and the aerodynamic package identical to those of the production Civic Type R.

The removal of equipment such as air conditioning, the front passenger seat and audio equipment offset the additional weight of a full roll cage (installed specifically for safety reasons and not to add rigidity).

During the test cycle, the development car used production-specification high-rigidity 19-inch alloy wheels. These were fitted with 235/35R19 road tires being developed in conjunction with a major European tire manufacturer especially for the new Civic Type R. The test cycle during which the 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time was achieved was part of the tire's development and testing process.

Honda has now vowed to follow up this achievement by sending a production Civic Type R around the Nürburgring Nordschleife later this year with the aim of setting a new lap record for a front-wheel drive production car.

Can you cite a source for your race rubber claim? Or did you move your head out of the way long enough to pull that out of your ass?

crushes the ring? meh.

Let me know when it breaks 7 minutes, then we can talk about "crushing" the ring.
