Can anyone here prove that the prototype rubber they used wasn't? Yeah, didn't think so.

These were fitted with 235/35R19 road tires being developed in conjunction with a major European tire manufacturer especially for the new Civic Type R. The test cycle during which the 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time was achieved was part of the tire's development and testing process.
That means ANY type rubber could have been used and they can disguise it as just one of their test batches. Can you be any more naive?

If Ford got the suspension right with the Focus RS, then it ought to be able to hang with the Type-R.
CTR will not be coming to US.
We're getting a CR-Z with detuned CTR engine.

From what I know, the CR-Z getting the turbo engine is still just a rumor. And I've read in several places 'Murica was getting the Type-R (or similar 'Muricanized variant). Not sure if that has since been confirmed to be a false statement entirely or what.

LOL @ not getting a FWD car is punishment. Punishment would be if the new NSX doesn't come here - but you best believe it will come here.

Have to admit that regardless of the fine print, it's pretty damn impressive. I wouldn't have expected a car like the to out down a time like that, regardless of the tires.

Everyone knows the Euro CTR is not coming to the US. That body style is not favored in the US. The best we will get is a Civic Si coupe/sedan with similar or same engine.

Definitely not "Race" compound tires. I'm sure they're somewhere in the performance range of Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Yes, it's just a way of saying, "Look what our engineering department managed to accomplish!"

It's also a way of saying, "My Honda is on par with your F82 M4 around a track."

So you're saying ALL that matters is tires at the ring? Anyone can just have these super special tires and they will get a 7:50? Aren't you like 10-15 years old? Your posts definitely show it. You don't think these other cars on the top 100 aren't running the best of rubber??? Don't be such a hater.

A couple of Honda execs with loose lips have let some details slip about the new CR-Z, and considering what an utter failure the current CR-Z is, it's not surprising really.

We did a story about the new CR-Z last week as well: http://www.guysgab.com/next-generati...of-2-0l-turbo/

Along with a sick rendering from a car mag in Japan: (sorry for the size)

If they get this right, I'm definitely a buyer!

Still a Civic. Would rather buy a used 335i for 15k and JB4 it.

They would be idiots for not bringint the CTR to the US. With the Golf R selling out the 2015 run in 5 days, the STi being backordered for weeks, and the Focus RS already taking deposits they wouldn't have any issues selling a fast Honda in this market. There are enough Honda fanboys that now have money that would be more than happy to plunk down $35k or whatever for a CTR.

I hope you're right and also hope that it ends up looking like that. The current CRZ is an epic fail on any measurable level.

Honestly, this is why I don't totally believe this time or that this is an even comparison. There is no way a 300 hp car is competitive with cars that top out over 200 mph on the straights. Especially going up some of those hills the horsepower is an immense advantage. So either those cars were not driven as hard, or something as different about the course.
