One thing the Japanese are not good at is timeless design. See Comic Sans level Type-R logo for details.

The FRS/BRZ are both underpowered for what they are. Adding +100hp along with some real tires to both would crush any competition currently out there.

If Mazda made a version of the MX5 with the power and quirky characteristics of the S2k in addition to the version out now, they'd sell them by the thousands.

The RX-8 was a great car but the rotary engine is a science experiment that doesn't work as well as people think it does.

BMW 2 series is not a cheap car. It's $45k for an M235i and $40k for a 228i. That is out of the price range of a cheap, fun to drive car. Great car, too expensive.

370Z is a whale

Cayman is more expensive than the BMW. Great car, but the cost is too great for the masses.

Hmm looks mostly tasteful. I guess I still think of the 2004 body with absurd wing when I think STi.

Ahem:

I wish they would release a more powerful Toyobaru. The world needs it.

The new MX-5 is supposedly back down to very low weights (2,330 lbs. I think) and more power, but not quite Toyobaru power, which, as we've already established, isn't much.

The RX-8 had so much more potential, but it reminds me of Hyundai Genesis Coupes... big power numbers are claimed, but they just aren't as fast as you'd expect.

I guess the 370Z's competitors are more Mustang, Camaro, Genesis Coupe, and other "pony car" class sports cars.

The Cayman and 2-Series were tossed in because they both fit the bill, but just not affordable to the average Joe.

That's a Ford Focus RS in that picture. There are no hatchback WRX's or STi's anymore.

That means ANY type rubber could have been used and they can disguise it as just one of their test batches. Can you be any more naive?
They used off-the-shelf Michelins.

Honestly I even zoomed in on the logo and couldn't make out ford so I assumed Subaru. I R SMART K? Either way still looks pretty good.

We're not dealing with actual information here. We're just spouting claims that we can't substantiate.

...that's not a Subaru, it's a Focus. Just saying that there are options in the extra hot hatch market that don't look like they are JDM'ed the fvck out. Golf R is another example.

Who cares what tires they used? Fact of the matter is that a stock Honda Civic costing ~$30k-$35k USD laps the ring faster than cars that cost 5 times as much (or more).

It's a good time to be a peasant auto enthusiast.

Golf R is a better example IMO. I could see myself in one of those. Too bad hatches have such a stigma for no reason.

The only GT3 it beat was the 996 from 16 years ago, not that hard.

It did the same time as the CSL with 360HP but the civic is lighter and since it's turbocharged it has more torque. Weight is everything when it comes to lap times. None of the cars it beat top out 200mph on the straight...

Evidently the reason it put down such a good lap time was that it was on "race rubber".

Not sure if that's a new condom manufactured in Ferguson or what. But apparently Honda fanbois can ignore it, and Honda haters can tout it. And it doesn't even matter if it's true or not. MAGIC!

The 370Z and Mustang top $40k easily, they aren't cheap either.

This, hatches are pretty damn practical cars and they also look good. If I was in my late teens-early twenties again I would get myself one those hot hatches.

11 year old S2000s don't look too dated to me...

The GT3 it beat is from 2003(12 years old, some of you suck at math), but still... It's held that top 100 spot for THAT long, has to mean something...

MSRP for a 5.0 GT with cloth recaros and no nav is under 45k CDN$. That's with the performance package as well.

That's 35k USD @ MSRP. Sooooooo you're wrong
