cheapest rate is about $75 per person per day = $400 per person = $800
minimum port charges are $75 per person = $150
then you have $15 per day parking = $75
then you have $15 per person per day for tips = $150
then you have excursions, even just two at $40 each = $160
add just $20 each for 5 days of liquor, soda, photos, etc = $200

trying to cruise on a bag full of pennies = 800+150+75+150+160+200 = $1535 if my math is correct

I am really not try to argue, but I would cruise every other month if it were $900 for two.
You can not believe me, it really doesn't matter to me. I'm telling you what it cost us for our last three five day cruises. Two were outside rooms and one was a balcony.

Just to add, it costs almost as much to kennel the dogs and give them daycare, special play time outside, etc. as it does for the cruise.

Cruise Ship prices

I rarely get off spending less than $2000 on the ship itself for 7 days for couple.

Maybe $150. I am cheap and so I'm not one to order $12 drinks all day. I drank water and ate the free food. Plus, it was a 7 day cruise with 6 ports so there was only one day we were really on the boat all day. That was the day we got a few drinks.

I work one day a week and so this was a budget vacation. And a successful one at that.

it's just not worth it. you can get $2 beers off the ship and $8 bottles of rum (big bottles)
i figure, if you're gonna get drunk, just do it off the ship and save a thousand bucks.

+1, that's what we did too. Paying $9 for a beer is robbery.

Befriend a travel agent and book in August.
I did that cruise 2 years ago...... it was way more than that because of the airfare, we didn't have airline miles. I think we ended up spending about $10-12k for everything (airfare, cruise, alcohol, shopping, excursions, etc...we went all out). I think ours was like 12 days, only 2 days on ship, the other 10 days were in port almost all day. It was awesome. Let me know if you have any questions.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it, never been to Europe before.

This will be the 3rd or 4th Euro cruise the girlfriend has been on, plus she has been around the world a couple times besides that, she's the one with all the airline miles.

So I'm hoping she knows what the hell is going on.

We seriously had the best time.... We flew into Venice from Germany, 2 days in Venice, then to Croatia, Messina, Naples, Almafi coast, Pompei, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Monaco, Nice, Palma de Menorca, then out of Barcelona

Say what? I don't drink, so I literally spend either $0 of a few bucks for some virgin pina coladas. I make all my money at the burrito and the burger bar.

Nothing is booked yet but I think we are doing Italy and Greece mostly, hitting Montenegro too which is supposed to be amazing.

The people have spoken...I knew I could count on the E46 crew....OK so now my budget is $2000....my dad doesn't like to walk around much since he gets winded easily..so visiting a bunch of stops would be useless...and my mom doesn't really venture off on her own without my dad...so it sounds like 3-day cruises are more a waste of time and money? Also airfare to the ships are not included???

Im not saying youre lying. I just think think the 100 here and there is not getting remembered.

I have been on plenty of cruises under 1000 per couple to start...but by the time it all done...its a totally differnt amount.

But hey, to each their own.

I just dont want an OP to think that 1000 gives his parents the time of their life especially when he realizes airfare alone is 600-1000.

I'm still amazed people sign up for cruises. It sounds like a prison to me. Poor people everywhere.

locked in a floating Hometown Buffet with closet sized dormitories in between feedings and sitting out by the urine pool.

Have you ever even been on one? You see many different countries or locations for a very small relative cost. And 80% of your time spent awake is off the ship

+1

And when you do port, you don't have enough time to explore a new culture; only enough to be exposed to tchotchke and t-shirt shops.

You clearly have never been on a nice cruise. Just like hotels or anything else, they vary dramatically. You can go on carnival booze cruise for 3 days to Bahamas or you can spend 21 days exploring Alaska land and sea in a 500 sq foot suite on a Princess ship.

I go on princess, older crowd and very few people i would consider trashy or "poor." Most poor people don't drop 10k on week vacation for family of 4.

To each their own but to criticize an entire industry with a blanket statement is silly.
