pot eating cops suing claiming the video is illegal

Quote:
The lawsuit argues that the video doesn't paint a fair version of events. The suit also claims the video shouldn't be used as evidence because, among other things, the police didn't know they were on camera.

"All police personnel present had a reasonable expectation that their conversations were no longer being recorded and the undercover officers, feeling that they were safe to do so, removed their masks," says the suit.

The dispensary also did not obtain consent of any officer to record them, the suit says.

"Without the illegal recordings, there would have been no internal investigation of any officer," the suit says.

Pappas counters that the suit is baseless because the officers were aware the dispensary had video cameras and managed to disable most of them.

"They knew they were on video. ... Just because they missed one camera doesn't make it illegal."

Those officers made some bad decisions. I'd wager that a few of them will likely lose their jobs.

NJ Police get busted trying to tamper with evidence to avoid prosecution.

Two Bloomfield police officers have lost a bid to dismiss their indictment on official misconduct and related charges in connection with a 2012 arrest.

Superior Court Judge Michael L. Ravin announced on Monday that he had issued a written decision, denying the dismissal motion made by Officers Orlando Trinidad and Sean Courter.

The judge also rejected their motion to suppress written statements they made in July 2012.

A third officer involved in Jeter's arrest, Albert Sutterlin, who retired in May 2013, pleaded guilty in October 2013 to tampering with records and is awaiting sentencing.

Courter and Trinidad have been suspended without pay.

Under a plea deal offered by prosecutors, Trinidad and Courter would have to serve five years in state prison each.
The videos that incriminate the officers at the links. I just hope justice is served.

Why the police killing of this unarmed white man hasn't led to national outcry...

A white Alabama police officer was caught on a secret recording discussing ways to kill a black man and cover it up, it was revealed Tuesday.

The 2013 incident was quietly settled out of court and ended with the officer keeping his job, according to legal documents and interviews with lawyers and officials involved in the case.
Middlebrooks tells Bias' brother-in-law, that if he were the suspect's relative, he would "f---ing kill that motherf------" and then arrange the crime scene to "make it look like he was trying to f---ing kill me."

At another point, Middlebrooks tells the brother-in-law that Bias "needs a g--d--- bullet."

Bias' legal notice was passed to the city's insurance company, which arranged a settlement of far smaller amount: $35,000, according to Alexander City's attorney, Larkin Radney.

With that agreement, Bias never sued. The unfiled complaint was obtained by both the Guardian and NBC News.

Bias lawyer Eric Hutchins has called for a state and federal investigation.
Maybe it's just me, but if I felt wronged enough to file a $600,000 suit, I doubt I'd settle for $35,000. And there seems to be a disconnect between settling for $35,000 and then later calling for a state and Federal investigation.

A) Double standard, the lack of an anti-minority allegation makes the story much less prurient.

B) No video. MSM is in the imagery business. If you don't have images for them, they're going to bump your story in favor of something they do have images for (preferably video, but they can edit photos into a montage that the photogenic talking head can describe in dramatic tones).

Federal appeals court: Drug dog that's barely more accurate than a coin flip is good enough

Quote:
From the article:
It turns out that Lex's handler gives the dog a reward every time he alerts, regardless of whether that alert is accurate. Lex isn't getting rewarded for filtering innocent motorists from guilty ones. He's being trained to authorize a search, each and every time he's called to duty.
And:
Following the Supreme Court's prescription in Harris, the opinion notes that that the dog had passed tests in "controlled settings" and cited testimony about the dog's reliability. But that testimony came from the dog's handler. And there's no further explanation of what those tests in controlled settings meant.
Also:
Moreover, the court notes that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit gave its okay to a dog with a success rate of 43 percent, or less accurate than a coin flip. This even lower number jibes with a 2011 Chicago Tribune investigation of suburban Chicago police dogs that found a success rate of just 44 percent. That review also found that with Latino drivers, the accuracy rate plunged to just 27 percent, more evidence that the dogs are merely reflecting the biases and presuppositions of their handlers. Other studies have shown false positive rates of up to 80 percent. With success rates that low, it's hard not to conclude that drug dogs aren't tools to determine probably cause, but basically a "search warrant on a leash."
And:
The problem is that this ruling gives wide latitude to police agencies in the Seventh Circuit to use drug dogs as a end-run around the Fourth Amendment. And that affects everyone, not just drug dealers. That means more latitude for forfeiture, and more potential for the sort of corruption and legalized highway robbery we've seen reported countless times over the past few years.

That's too light of a punishment. Give him two months with double pay and an all-inclusive vacation in Dubai. That ****ing swine
