I don't think there have been any announcements yet. I have just seen estimates of $25/share floating around the Interwebz. I am jealous of the internal employees who got $322K RSUs a few years ago. They got their stock for $6 - $10/share. Gotta love these tech startups going public. This is how you REALLY gamble!

Yeah for sure they got in on the right bus, but that's like winning the jackpot on a scratch off lottery ticket. Those nerds could have jumped on any of the other million dumb tech start ups similar to this.

Who is getting in on the Snapchat IPO?

Sheesh. Not sure if relatable but I recently got offered 22x annual rent revenue on one of my commercial rental properties. A lot of overseas money flowing in around these parts (and 1031 exchanges). 17x has been the industry standard for awhile now.

No they won't. Facebook's user base is too old for snapchat, and instagram's story doesn't have the filters that snapchat does, and honestly that's key for them; people go apeshit over those stupid filters. Snapchat bought the company that owns the IP for their face recognition and filter overlay. Those, and the ultra-specific geo filters set them apart. Social media is for casually bragging about your life, and what better way to do it than with a filter showing where you are? But still, it's a garbage IPO.

If you wanna get in on the IPO with less risk, buy MILN as an alternative.

Are you telling me there is no other method of face recognition with filter overlay? Sounds unlikely, but I could be mistaken. Obviously facial recognition isn't unique to them, hell, cameras have eye detect built in, photoshop has facial recognition (and an incredibly complex one at that) built in, so maybe the patent is on the filters applied to any video using facial recognition? Would be curious to check out the patent.

No, not at all, facial recognition is all over the place. But they do have some proprietary code for mapping the filter on to your face and tracking you across the frame.

edit: What's crazy to me is that during the early days when they were still really overvalued their only IP was the push and hold to take video idea.

The Global X Millennials Thematic ETF (MILN) seeks to invest in companies that have a high likelihood of benefiting from the rising spending power and unique preferences of the U.S. Millennial generation (birth years ranging from 1980-2000). These companies come from a broad range of categories, including: social media and entertainment, food and dining, clothing and apparel, health and fitness, travel and mobility, education and employment, housing and home goods, and financial services.

What a name, but to be serious this looks kind of promising. Thanks!
EDIT: How often are these companies swapped out for other, better performing companies? Who decides what companies get swapped out? Also who decides the percentage that these companies make up in this index?

It's nothing more than an ETF that diversifies in what millenials are currently interested in. It's pretty interesting. Read the prospectus for more info. It's very new.

In general when you invest in an ETF do you get to decide how much of your money goes toward X stock or is all of that decided by someone else?

That's decided by someone else, otherwise it would just be an actively managed portfolio and not an ETF. Think of the ETF as its own portfolio that can be traded like a stock.

It's basically a mutual fund that is traded like a stock.

Watch these.

https://www.khanacademy.org/economic...al-fund-part-1

They'll basically lead to you buying a nice low expense ratio ETF later today

I bought some SCHV last April and it's gained 10% since then! Not bad, eh? Of course it won't do that every year and may even go down with the market, but it's long term.

Doesn't seem like it has any real rhyme or reason behind it. It just sounds cool to people. No reason to buy it over something with much lower expense ratios. You buy MILN because it seems neat, not as a smart investment.
