Sorry, I should have known transmission filter since this is an ATF thread!

Meistersatz is the hgh quality one most prefer. This filter kit has everything and is less than $25.

If you have a ZF, stick to only ZF-brand or Genuine BMW tranny filters. I tried one of the more common aftermarket filters, and it allowed fluid to bypass the seal, and therefore the filter, after only 300 miles. Replaced with a Genuine - no more suction.

If you have a GM, I have no personal experience to share. I'd assume the same rule of thumb probably applies, though. I like aftermarket parts - but this is definitely one of those situations where it's worth it to get to the real deal.

From personal experience, I do not recommend this filter. Just my two cents.

Edit - sorry, I assumed this was the ZF version. Never used the GM version. I'm not sure I'd trust it after how crappy the Meistersarz was in my ZF box.

I've been using Valvoline Maxlife ATF in both the GM and ZF automatic transmissions in my 2001 e39 530i, and my 2004 e46 330xi for many years with excellent results.
Check out my thread - 330xi autotrans slipping - thread to see how I fixed a vexing problem with the GM A5S390R.

I think it's the only ATF to claim compatibility with both Dexron VI and LT71141.

Good point. I'll add it to the GM list.
