How long did it take you to find a job after finishing engineering school?

If you go to a reputable university, you'll usually get an offer while still in school.

Graduated in 2011. I interviewed 1 month before school ended. Started 4 days after graduation. I think having a little vacation would have been better.

A few months back in 2010, but I hated my job, went back to school and have had a harder time finding a job with a master's than I did a bachelors.

A couple months after I graduated, I was employed in a **** job at a vehicle assembly plant. It was a job though. It only took a couple months because I was a moron and didn't really look hard before graduation. By the time you graduate, you ought to already have a couple internship periods and a job lined up either from that company or with another.

Implying that I want to stay here I've applied to over 30 jobs all over the country and haven't gotten so much as a call back; aerospace is a difficult industry to break into. I talked with some guys that run a lab at Hondajet and one of them went 2 years before hearing back from Honda. A lot companies only post positions due to stipulations in their contract and for every job posted they've already interviewed a candidate. HR is a huge hurdle and if a resume doesn't have the exact keywords they search for you'll never get face to face with a person. Talking with people in the industry it normally takes upwards of 100 applications for a single call back. I've also been told that companies will pass on someone with a higher degree if they don't already have a need because they'd rather pay a fresh grad less money than get more talent when it isn't 100% necessary.

edit: But that's not to say I can't find a job, I've been employed this whole time but finding the job I want has been a huge PITA

Huntsville has a **** load of aero and related jobs. It's a decent place to live.

Seems strange to me though. I've had a few interviews in the past year and I haven't been looking. Just recruiters from LinkedIn. I had one last week that I'm waiting on feedback. I will be taking that job and moving across the country if they offer it.

Keep updating your profile. Every time you add stuff I'm pretty sure it gets put up for recruiters to see as new.

I actually know a couple guys that live in Huntsville, one works in defense and his brother was supposed to move into a defense position and then Trump came in and ****ed that up with the hiring freeze. I'm aiming for space systems though, not defense, so I've been looking out west.

Scott, if you want a job in med device let me know. I know it's a long shot but I'd be happy to help if it's something you want to try out.

Appreciate it, but I'm dead set on space systems or something related. Just today I was put in contact with someone at the geospatial intelligence agency who is looking to fill a position, but getting clearance takes upwards of a year

ULA is on my list, but I'd rather be at their office in CO
