Had one student who was bitching to me about having to do CAD drawings,,, "When I graduate I'll make the flunky draftsmen do that"
I LOL'd and told them,, No when you graduate for the first couple years you'll be that draftsmen working FOR the draftsmen that have
years of experience and finding out you don't know squat..

You would not believe how many mechanical engineering students cant use a screwdriver..
How many electrical engineering students had never made anything electrical..
How many civil's Had never built anything...

And all of them seem to think they were going to be "IN charge" a month out of school.

IN a average graduating class of about 150 students we usually had less than 20 unemployed at graduation.
Milenials.. meh..

You had me up until "millennials" as if any generation of engineers is different in the proportion of arrogant undergrads.

Seems strange to me though. I've had a few interviews in the past year and I haven't been looking. Just recruiters from LinkedIn. I had one last week that I'm waiting on feedback. I will be taking that job and moving across the country if they offer it.

Keep updating your profile. Every time you add stuff I'm pretty sure it gets put up for recruiters to see as new.

I moved to Huntsville for school (UAH, electrical eng), started a job within a month from graduation.

It's a good town, growing pretty quickly now. Higher than average wages, lower than average COL, and lots of craft beer.

Every generation has abundant arrogance. The millennials have that plus the inherent laziness and desire to have others do stuff for them which is not at all arrogance.

Sounds like you had a shitty first job if you didn't have people doing tedious **** for you.

20 years of experience doesn't mean dick. I tell people with 20 years of experience how to do their **** better because all they've ever been is "adequate" their whole lives.

I would think that engineers would appreciate the efficiency of this.

As do I but I didn't the day I rolled out of undergrad. If any of the brand new E1's pulls that sort of crap, they immediately go to the top of the collective sh1t list and end up getting as much of the tedious b1tch work as possible. It's just how it goes until they get some credibility to start doing their own thing. Until then, they are plebs/minions.
