My Ride: 2002 325iT
225 Tires on 7" rim?

Can I fit a 225/45-17 tire on 7" wide rims? My '02 325iT came with Style 73 wheels (7x17, ET47) and 205/50 tires. I need new tires and want to take my car to some track days while I finish work on my regular track car, and am wondering why the car did not come with 225/45 tires that TireRack recommends on their website. It looks like the 225's will stick out 0.4" more on either side, and I'm installing some Koni yellow sport shocks and Eibach springs for a modest drop.

7" is the minimum wheel width that the tire manufacturers recommends for the 225 width, is there any disadvantage from the wider rubber?
