Windows Resetting

My Auto-Up settings are always resetting themselves...thus its rare that the auto up works correctly. (window ends up going up 3/4 of the way)

Any secrets to these getting these settings to stay put for any length of time?

Never seen this on the many manufacturers I've seen this feature on.
Is this just happening on the driver's window or all of them?

Common problem on many models.

Is this a coupe or convertible, it makes a big difference.

My guess is a convertible.

Without knowing the details, my first gut feeling is a battery/low Voltage problem.

If this is a garage queen that sits, it is possible the battery runs down while the vehicle sits and even if the engine starts a low cranking Voltage could cause the problem.

If it is a daily driver, same issue if the battery is low and the cranking Voltage drops too low.

If the windows stop 3/4 way up, again a battery issue, especially if you are closing the top without the engine running and use battery power to close the top and windows. Battery Voltage dropping too low.

Could be a charging system problem if it happens with the engine running.

Battery being disconnected will also cause the Anti Pinch to loose its memory.

Could be a charging system problem if it happens with the engine running.

So lots of possibilities, but with BOTH windows having problems and BOTH windows stopping 3/4 way up, I am leaning on a bad battery/Voltage problem.

Have the battery properly tested at an auto parts store first before you worry about anything else.

I appreciate the input
I had the battery tested today and it came back good.

The windows dont consistently reset to 3/4 (though usually) - sometimes it is 1/4.

More of an annoyance/inconvenience - was just hoping there was an easy explanation solution.

Comment above has me wondering why Convertibles are more prone to this....

I have a similar issue; when I put my convertible top up, or, use the 'all' windows up button..my main drivers side window goes up and back down about a 1/3 of the way. The other windows go all the way up. Curious to watch the outcome on your issue...

The convertible pinch protection is a function of the window current draw, there is no pinch switch located in the upper window gasket like on a coupe or other models.

So the question is do/does the window really loose the pinch protection memory or is the window pinch protection current limit being triggered.

If the pinch protection memory is being lost, the Auto Up feature will stop working entirely. The up feature on the window will only operate manually without the Auto Up feature.

If the Auto Up feature still works, but the window stops part of the way up and then reverses, this is a different problem with the pinch protection being prematurely triggered. Due to excessive current draw either due to low Voltage, binding in the window regulator or a window motor going bad.

Since BOTH windows are problems, I doubt both window motors have failed at or around the same time.

One other possibility is how you are setting the pinch protection. Not sure this would happen, but if you are setting the pinch protection with the engine running, vs the engine not running, if the system saves a current draw value this could possibly cause an issue. I recall all the cars I have ever set the pinch protection in would be performed while the engine is running.

But you need to determined if the pinch protection memory it being lost (which will cause the Auto Up feature to no longer work AND the front windows will not close using the Master Window switch as I recall) or is the pinch protection being triggered prematurely.

Great info!
never really considered what was triggering the pinch - very cool.

I've always followed what I thought was the correct process for setting - doing so with car off, key in position 1.

Will try with running (which makes sense given the switch is based on draw) and report back.

Thanks for walking me through the above
