Chris Cornell checks out

The best voice in rock-n-roll.

So long, Chris. And thanks for all the tunes.

Audioslave sucked, Soundgarden was ok.

As usual, your opinion is full of flaws.

RIP. He was one of my favorites of all time. Solo albums, Audioslave or Soundgarden - they were all awesome.

On this, we agree - now and maybe of all time. He reminded me of Paul Rodgers with Bad Company, but with a little more power. I was a fair-weather fan of both AudioSlave and Soundgarden, i.e., I could dig their big hits, but could not really get into their deeper stuff at my age. Soundgarden is scheduled to play the Bomb Factory in Dallas and thought just last night about going, but they only had single seats available. Interestingly, Paul Rodgers just performed at the same venue.

Edit: Roger Ailes is dead. Who is going to be the third of this Round of 3?

I actually always found him quite boring, which is odd because I was a fan of so many bands from the same scene. Outside of Jesus Christ Pose and Outshined nothing ever stuck out to me (other than Hunger Strike, but that was a different band).

Great voice, no doubt.

Their songs were mostly plodding and boring, and his voice was grating and bereft of nuance. In that sense he was like the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish (his voice could only do one thing), except he wore leather outfits and had long stringy hair.

Rusty Cage was an awesome song for running, but not because of Chris Cornell. I'm sorry that he died so young but the music world is no poorer for it.

EDIT: Spoonman was pretty good as well.

I think this is much more interesting, although not nearly as surprising. I would say he died of shame, but I don't think he was capable of it.

He kept asking for somebody to "Show Me How to Live". Now he just lays there "Like a Stone".

For real though, good musician.

Guy was a true talent, singer, song writer, and musician, him along with Jerry Cantrell and Billy Corgan will go down as musical legends if you ask me, something that doesn't exist anymore.

Love this song, AoG doesn't know what he's talking about.

Had this CD even before they were Audioslave, they were kicking around naming their band Civilian at first. Teaming up with Tom Morello brought two legends together.

We definitely need to reconsider the use of "legend" in this thread.

Though I do agree that Chris Cornell is/was a legend, definitely one of the best voices in music. Never heard of some of these other guys.

Billy Corgan = Smashing Pumpkins
Jerry Cantrell = Alice In Chains (Layne Staley was the front man but Jerry was/is the genius behind them if you ask me)
Tom Morello = Lead guitarist of Rage Against the Machine and then Audioslave

It is a personal opinion, I grew up listening to these guys and truly believe the rock band and "real" musicians are becoming extinct, these guys were the last of that breed.

They had a discussion up here on the radio recently trying to name a band that came out in the past 5 or so years that could sell out a stadium, it was on sports talk but the guys who do the morning show used to be the morning guys on WBCN, the former alternative rock station up here, they coudn't name one nor could any listeners.

It's cool. I'm glad you enjoy/ed their music and hope you continue to do so.

That is an interesting question (selling out stadiums).

The poor guy's dead at 52 and people are talking smack about him.

Fine, you don't care for his music, move along.

Saw SG with NIN last year at the Mountain View Shoreline Amphitheater. SG opened and put on a great show, a 1/3 of the crowd left when NIN took the stage.

R.I.P. Chris

Chris Cornell was my father's favorite singer and definitely ranked up there for me.

I don't really have any words to express what I'm thinking other than it's saddening and disappointing at the same time. We don't know what kind of demons he was facing in his personal life that would make him want to commit suicide, but it must have been something he felt was uncontrollable.

PSA: If any of you weirdos are contemplating offing yourself, GO SEEK HELP. Call the suicide prevention hotline, go see a therapist, go to a fire or police station and ask for help... do something.

RIP. One of the best voices there was. All the grunge lead singers are pretty much gone from Suicide or OD...
