Definitely go for the full set and order a new radiator, in case you break something. Also do the besian seal kit while you have the vanos out.. And also the exhaust cam shaft sensor (30 bucks at FCP for the OEM (which is a BMW sensor minus the name).

Good news everyone. I've invented a way to spend more money.

Actually, I'm working from home today and got a pile of parts delivered.
rmeuropean shipped my friday order on Monday and it arrived today. (And free ground shipping is UPS which is good where I live.)
I've got new motor mounts, oil pan gasket, and the rest of my steering bits have arrived.
I can officially start putting things back on the car. (Still gotta pop the old mounts off.)
My drive shaft and new diff bolts arrived so I really can assemble the whole suspension again.

The next round of parts will be the belts/pulleys/water pump, followed by the rest of the cooling system refresh. The snapped PVC hose means that I'll get to pull the intake in the near future and replace all of that junk. I

You don't have to drain the diff, just take it out right side up, don't tilt it or else you'll spill but other than that, that's how I did mine, and yes it was a biatch to do it, also watch out to not brake the aluminum bolts on the pan itself, good luck:-)

Let's see. I assembled the front suspension this weekend... mostly. I ended up deciding to replace a CV boot on one axle that isn't quite due for rebuilding. I also installed the new dust seals and washers on the front struts.
Otherwise, I installed the new motor mounts, oil pan, axle carrier, front diff, front cross member, tie rods, rack boots, CABs, CAs, spindles and loaded the suspension to prevent pre-loading the CABs. Now she's back up and I've pulled the struts from the spindles for axle install.

Meanwhile, I pulled the radiator (finally) and re-mounted the PS pump. (note to self, re-install the third bolt for the PS)
I'm waiting for my new creeper to come in before I put fluid into the transmission and install the new front drive shaft. Once the axles are back in and I swap out the front sway bar bushings, I'll wrap my front suspension rebuild. After that, I get to move on to engine work.
