Speed TV transition to Fox Sports 1

Anyone worried about the transition?

TWC, Dish and Direct haven't even signed contracts.

I don't want to miss my road racings (Rolex Grand-AM, ALMS, Continental). Already missing F1 since I can't access NBC Sports Network.

I really hope Fox Sports 1/2 isn't going to suck. Anyone got the inside scoop?

DirectTV has it - Channel 219.

While Speed sucked since Fox took over, I am sad.

I really miss SpeedVision more than what evolved into SpeedTV.

My Ride: is slow
Already don't like it, definitely seems they are cutting back on a lot of racing related programming. Raceday is now only an hour long, Trackside is gone, and I'm sure they'll get rid of other races from lesser known series as well. Just seems like they're trying to do way too much on one channel.

If they keep getting UFC events such as last night I'll be okay with it. That was a pretty big card for free.

Like every other specialty channel does when it strays from it's original purpose, this is just gonna turn into your typical mixed bag of crap.

My Ride: things that go fast.
It sucks. I hate fox, I hate Comcast I hate not seeing wheel sports. I don't want to watch grown men play kids games.

Fox signed a five year (or was it three?) contract with the new USCR. Frankly, I see this as a great move. Say what you want about Speed, they still did a better job covering Grand-Am races than ESPN/ABC did covering ALMS. For the most part, when you watch a Rolex race, you are seeing the full flag to flag race.

I'm not much into F1, but the little bit I peruse, it doesn't seem any better on NBC than it was on Speed, so other than the question of whether or not you get the channel, I see that as a lateral move from a coverage perspective.

I'm not sure when Fox took over Speed, I'll guess it was the same time we started seeing stuff like the Porsche Cup races go away. I miss those races, but really the coverage was pretty bad anyway. it was more a highlight reel wrapped around a bunch of marketing.

While the coverage of the Euro races is only "so so", I hope they don't cut that. That was always my off season racing content. It is obvious the WTCC, BTCC, and DTM, were not produced by Speed, but some other productions companies that package the content up for resale to whichever broadcasters are interested. I never understood the hour content of WTCC, essentially they show you two highlight reels of the same race. Not sure I get why they don't show more content just once. In any case, can't blame Speed or Fox for the quality of this content.

To be honest, Speed had more bullshit content than anything else. Pinks? Unique Whips? Auctions? Etc., et al. .... all a bunch of worthless crap IMHO. MAYBE with the change to Fox Sports, we will see some decent sport content along with some decent actual race content.

Fox is the reason SPEED was covered up with bullshlt programming. They brought that crap with them when they took over.

not defending Fox at all....

I guess my point is, perhaps we will get some better content along with the bit of racing, rather than a bunch of dumbass stuff along with a bit of racing.

Trying to see the silver lining I suppose.

Fact is road racing in the U.S. really isn't very popular. Since TV broadcasting is about making money off advertising, we are lucky we get any race content at all (other than NASCAR that is)

As long as they air road races, I'll be okay with it. SPEED had some brutal programs and I'm sure its not getting any better.

Well Fox Sports is a actually Fox Sports 1 & Fox Sports 2.

Fox Sports 2 is only available on the top tier package (Same as NBC Sports for F1) or the multi-sports pack.

Good example of when I need Fox Sports 2? Continental Tire Race on 08/17 was ONLY broadcast on Fox Sports 2...no re-run or anything in the worthlesss shyte on Fox Sports 1.

Conclusion: Fox Sports 1 & 2 suck...about 80% of their coverage is non-racing now. Speed was AT LEAST related to cars...now I got a bunch of football crap that I alreayd have on 30 other channels I don't watch.

ALL I EVER WANTED WAS ROLEX, CONTINENTAL, ALMS, F1 AND INDY ON THE SAME DAMN CHANNEL. I guess that is just too much to ask for.

Lair - do you live near Barber?

There are so many tracks I'd like to visit. we have Portland International here, but get almost zero racing. Lately there are only two; the Rose Cup, and NASCAR west. NASCAR west lost its sponsor, so they didn't even come this year. That race supported a BMW race that was pretty good... e30's I think is what they raced. It was a spec race and was really cool.

Closest track that Grand-Am or ALMS comes to is Laguna and it is about ten hours away (I guess Sonoma is about the same drive distance, which would be cool to visit for the WTCC).

I'd love to see a race at Ohio, Atlanta, Barber, Watkins, et al

lol, yeah, probably

Fox 2 used to be Fuel. Fuel used to have some great X games type stuff, surfing, snowboarding, Mt. Biking, etc. It was awesome. Then about a year ago or so it changed to almost all UFC ****. Now I'm wondering if thats when Fox bought them

I'm so close I can hear my buddy's IMSA GTU RX7 when I'm sitting on my couch. It's a 10 minute drive down backroads. I've been going there for DE's club races, and track days since 2003.

Legends of Motorsports and Secrets of Speed were two of the best shows ever made. Look at Youtube to see how great SpeedVision was. Speed (since Fox took over) isn't much of a loss, but it was still a motorsports channel while FS1 will be more sports in general. Car lovers lost a (meager) asset with the shuttering of Speed.
