Eh, if she doesn't use taxpayer dollars on this, I don't really care. I expect nothing less from people that give the Queen of England an ipod. No amount of money or power can buy class.

If it were a country album, I'm sure Chase wouldn't be here complaining.

Seriously Chase, what is supposed to be the problem here?

And, since nobody else has said it yet: Michelle Obama looks pretty good in that picture, even with her hey-ho dance moves. I remember when some congressman said she was too fat to be an advocate for children's health. I'm not seeing that here at all.

Chase's own post states, in contradiction to the thread title:
Mrs. Obama releasing an album is a bit misleading. The right word is curating or sponsoring the album. Called Songs for a Healthier America, the album features 19 songs by a range of hip-hop and R&B artists. Some of the artists youve never heard of: Los Barkers, The Happiness Club, Babi Floyd. Some of the artists you've heard of; like, years ago: Jordin Sparks, Ashanti, Run DMC.
In addition to spearheading the Lets Move! campaign the record is supporting, Obama will appear in ten of its music videos. Sadly, she wont be singing.
Its a noble release, of course. It will be distributed to students at schools in New York City and other major cities with the goal of inspiring them to live healthier lifestyles and, at the very least, get up and move to the music.
I don't know what he finds so objectionable about this. Every day on here, certain members on here complain how 'some people' need to have more accountability and take more control of their lives and live healthier and smarter and whatnot. Here she is trying to inspire people. And you make fun of it?

What would you rather have instead? A social program?

Since the "why is this a big deal" question has been brought up so many times :

1. It's embarrassing. As mentioned by others on here, this is just "dumb". Neither our President nor first lady should be "stooping" to something like this to feel they are making a difference.

2. The genre does not matter. Our white house should not be promoting, creating, producing, or involved in creating record albums, tv shows, or other entertainment of this kind. They should be.. .LEADING THE NATION.

And lastly... likely my largest sticking point :

3. If this IS the right way to go about this.. which I think it certainly is NOT... are we pushing forward a "healthy agenda" while spitting in the face of the english language. Seriously... our first lady is working to put out an album with a song entitled : U R What You Eat. THIS is the image the white house stands behind?

So yes, this is a "rap issue".. but it's also a class issue. The White House getting involved with these individuals on this type of project sends the wrong message and makes us look like a joke.

I usually can squeeze out some piece of logic from your posts. This is not one of them. It's a shame you weren't born in the year 1945.

Anticipatory edit: Go go gadget martyrdom!

What is illogical about the desire for a "classy white house"?

If you can agree that is a logical request, I'm sure you can see how touting a music album or label is contrary to that request. I'm sure that's even more apparent when the albums include songs entitled "U R What U Eat". Is it wrong to expect at least proper english be used in white house correspondence or activities?

Sorry but this type of stuff is below the first family.

It must be physically exhausting to get spun up in the dozens of non-issues that you seem to be drawn to.

It's a discussion that you have been involved in countless times.....from marijuana, to rap music, and so on....and have revealed your antiquated, narrow view of such things.

I can agree that the white house should be kept classy. Your definition of classy is probably better suited for the uber social conservatives, who frankly would take issue with anything the Obama's have done regardless of its merits, or for a conservative 50's family dynamic.

Keep in mind that from the article you posted, Mrs. Obama is SPONSORING an album that has to do with her "get kids healthy/not fat" initiative, which is a huge issue for this countries future. If this is something that is perceived to be an effective medium of communication for the target audience, then I fail to see what the problem is.

You act like Mrs. Obama is going to be on the cover with Snoop Lion promoting a gangster lifestyle of crime.

So Evolved, you're totally fine with the White House sponsoring an album which fails to even use proper English?

In the age of twitter, facebook, and what not, I see it as a non-issue. The fact that you are so bent out of shape about it is pretty telling and not all too surprising.

The 1st Amendment says nothing about using "proper" English. And considering that you use terms like "jabroni" and fail to speak and write in Old English only goes to show how much respect you actually have for the English language.
