Logical and Republican in the same sentence.

The 2 are polar opposites. It's like that word is purged from the Republican vocabulary for most.

I'm getting the sense the the NC GOP, after finally attaining full control of their state government after, what, a century, are risking badly overplaying their hand in their fervid rush to push through their hard line agenda. Regarding the various voting related actions, I think, like the GOP nationally, they are desperate to quickly entrench themselves through both Gerrymandering and various forms of voter suppression in a rear-gueard attempt to hold off long-term demographic trends as long as possible.

In the end, I think they might end up firing up their political opposition, turning off the more pragmatic independants and end up back in the wilderness.

The Democrats aren't perfect... but the Republicans are cock-blocking America back to the stone age.

I agree, if stone age is code word for "a time when people had accountability"

Haaaaaa

Detroit was one of the wealthiest cities in the country at one time. Fact is that it has been a democratic city for over 50 years. The city politicians signed outrageous deals with the Devil (unions). These deals led to the demise of the city. The pay scales, benifits, retirement plans, etc., were unsustainable. Many other US cities are on the same path.

NO MYTH - Democratic policies led to the downfall of Detroit. Many other US cities are on the same path.

Just WHO is it in the US that thinks abortion is anything other than a woman's choice? I can see why the GOP & Dems don't get along, but why the hell is abortion anything to do with politics? An anti abortion stance must be the most un-American precept ever (so-called land of the free my arse).

Typical republican lunacy.

Detroit's problems stem from a lack of revenue - not Democratic policies. Nobody had a problem with Detroit or unions while GM was netting $7K profit per bloated SUV sale.

I'll spell it out for your ignorant ass: the lack of revenue is due to the flight out of the city by those with money because they got tired of the financial rape. Thus proving Margaret Thatcher right - the trouble with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money.

"Financial rape".

You republican nutjobs crack me up.

I'll let some random internet goob explain it for you (but keep on believing that it's all about the Democrats, because that's what you republican nutjobs do).

Quote:
It's actually very simple.

Detroit's prosperity was built upon the success and dominance of the US auto industry at mid-century. At that point, making cars was labor-intensive (no robots) and nearly 100% of the cars bought in the US were made in Detroit. Not only that, but Americans bought new cars on average every 3 years. So it was boom time.

But things changed. Robots for building cars came in. Foreign cars that were decent came in. The gas crisis of the 70s hit and Detroit's answer was to design junk cars that nobody wanted to buy. They lost market share, the city started to decline. Middle class people moved to the suburbs and Detroit, unlike other US cities, didn't have the power to annex those suburbs (look at Atlanta--which could have been just like Detroit, but annexed all the suburbs around it to keep the tax base strong).

So Detroit depopulated but still covered a vast area, putting a huge strain on all that goes into keeping up a city of that size even though the population was no longer there to support it. And it spirals out of control.
