1. you had to take an emergency trip out of town because a close relative died and you should be back on thursday.
as a bonus, depending on which relative "died", you might get bereavement (paid) time off.

2. you have a job interview

3. you heve been subpoenaed to testify before congress.

4. you have to go to court for an emergency restrainig order, because your ex-boyfriend has been stalking you and is becoming violent.

Tell him you were stuck in a snow storm and had to abandon your vehicle 7 miles from home. When you went back to go get it it wasn't there and you are searching tow yards to find out where it is. If your boss believes this excuse in August, you can pretty much come up with whatever you want from now on.

if youre part of a union, just stay within the legal limits (3 per quarter?) and calling in sick for 2days consecutive is considered 1 occurrence

call your boss early monday morning or e-mail at like 3am, say that you were up all night with your (roommate, best friend, gf, neighbor, whomever) as they were literally throwing up everywhere and glued to the toilet seat. Say that it was a terrible scene... say that at midnight you decided enough was enough and took them to the hospital. It was a few hours until they were all checked in and good to go but you got home and need to crash and take the day to recuperate and bring them home later once they are released.

you look good and might not even get charged for the day off.
