No rap era is better than the other. It's all relative to the age you listened to it. Same with "Classic Rock." Relative to the listener. When you're young, music influences you more.

Late 80s, very early 90s. There was hardcore gangster rap like NWA, socially conscious rap like Public Enemy, dance rap like Digital Underground and Rob Base, lover rap like LL Cool J, lighthearted stuff from Tone Loc and Young MC. The whole spectrum.

What was your favorite era of rap music

1992-1996... The 4 most influential rap years for me. A lot of great albums came out during those years. Dre, Snoop, 2 pac, Biggie, etc...

1999-2001ish.. Eminem was at his best. He was like nothing anyone had ever heard before. Nelly, while never gonna be known as a great rapper, but made a huge impact bcuz his style was new and very different. Gangster rapper but you'd never know it from his sing song type flow.

Then in 2003 when Get Rich or Die Tryin' was released, the rap world got flipped upside down. Gangster rap by someone with the look, and past to back up what was being said. IMO "Get Rich or Die Tryin" was the greatest rap album ever released.

Re: What was your favorite era of rap music

All the rappers I liked now do disney movies, sell headphones, or do commercials for overstock.

Except one.

He kept it real. He died of aids.
