Topic revisit - wallets

I know there have been some wallet threads in the past, but I live on the edge...

I'm looking for something slightly more useful than the range of current/trendy "minimalist" wallets, but way less than a traditional bi/tri-fold. I do still carry cash and probably 6 cards (including a DL). I wouldn't mind room for a couple business cards, but I can either skip that or lose one of the plastic cards for that.

Right now, I'm using a leather card case that is just about done (and a little stretched out from the occasional over-stuffing).

I've been looking around and have found a few front runners:

Dosh bi-folds (with the money clip) - cool looking, but they seem a little problematic and stiff.

J.Fold Microperf Slimfold - might actually be too big

J.Fold vertical card case (Thunderbird?) - might be too small

Omega wallet - may destroy my pants pockets

So - what are you using? Any suggestions? Definitely under $100, preferably under $75, definitely no iphone/wallet cases. I know I'd wind up annoyed with the limitation.

TIA

Ken

I have one of those Dosh thingies with the money clip. My main gripe is the money clip part becomes loose after a while. Like if you stick in more than 10 bills at a time it stretches out the metal piece and it won't return to being tight, so next time you only have 2 or 3 bills they'll fall right out.

I use a tiny bi-fold with money clip, it's comfortable in the front-left pocket and holds 6 cards. Can't stand sitting on a wallet.

Edit: like this but with a clear window for the license:

Provide some links to the aforementioned wallets..

I have gone back and forth.. I was all about J-Fold for a while.. but I saw some at Nordstrom Rack.. and they were plastic feeling crap..

I have a friend who got a $300+ coach, water buffalo wallet.. it was nice.. but it was thick.. he quit using it and eventually ended up with a Tumi.. I don't know the word.. 3 credit card slots.. a place to stash cash, no money clip..

I get my wallets at TJMaxx, Ross, Marshall's, etc.. they are $20-30 and they last for a few years.. I want something better, but it is pointless it seems..

Got this as a gift from coworkers about 6 or 7 years ago. Doesn't seem like Coach makes it any more. But I love it. It's the perfect balance of slim vs capacity for my taste.

Ive had a Tumi t-tech for 2 years now and it is still holding up great. I had bought it for 14.99 at costco i dont think that they sell it there anymore though. it is made of nice leather and is pretty compact, not a fan of large wallets.

That's what I use. Except mines all black.

I hate carrying a bulky wallet.

I bought this $15 kr3w wallet 6-7 years ago

Held up pretty well, still new basically, haven't dumped it yet. Basic double fold wallet. Waiting for somebody to steal it thinking it's Gucci

Who keeps their wallet in their back pocket still, lol.

What's up with "j fold wallets", keep your money in the ****ing pocket the wallet has for money - what's the point of the money clip ON a wallet.

I'm a bit surprised E46F isn't a total tri-fold wallet member forum yet

Uh, where do you keep your wallet? Did I miss some huge memo that we are supposed to wear coats all the time?

Please don't tell me you keep it in the front pocket.

To OP:

I am the type of guy that never buys brand names (Gucci, Coach, etc.) but my ex gf bought me a Coach Leather (not that denim/fabric crap) wallet in 2002 or so. I used that wallet every day until this year, when my current gf bought me a Gucci one. The Coach one is worn (in a cool way), and the plastic cover for your ID is dirty, but there are no holes, rips, tears, or anything wrong with the leather otherwise. I was so impressed, that it's turned me into a Coach fan (for leather goods).

Comparing the two, the leather on the Coach wallet seems more durable. I doubt the Gucci can last me as long.

If I ever buy my own wallets again, I'm going Coach. To me, it's expensive, but worth it. My current GF tells me that Coach isn't even a big deal (and should be looked down upon). God, I hate dating someone trendy.

I've been through a lot of no-name leather wallets before that, and they all had rips/holes/tears for some reason. My motto now is to pay a lot up front if you have the cash, for quality goods. I received a $600 pair of Cartier sunglasses over 6 years ago as a gift, and not only are they still great in every single way (fit, finish, style), but they've actually appreciated in value (now over $1000 on ebay as they are not made anymore and are now vintage).

I don't see myself retiring them anytime soon.

I have the medium bifold and its held up 100x better then my tumi and coach wallets had, I'm going to buy another one soon in a different color. It's a little stiff when you get it but it breaks in and is awesome

I would recommend Coach. They have several men's wallets in solid black and browns (i.e., their logo is not plastered all over it). I find the quality of their leather to be top notch for the price. Soft to the touch but not soft enough where it damages/scratches easily.

I have a black bi-fold from them. I've had it for about 3-4 years and the leather is still in pristine condition.

I have a Geoffrey Beene wallet that I got at age 14. Still rolling with that tri-fold as my ONLY wallet at 28. It was my first wallet...it might be my last. And yes, it's big and a front pocket unit (I put my cell phone in the other front pocket, why not match it?

I originally got it as a travel wallet because I tend to take notes and write a lot of stuff down. I ended up using it as my main wallet because I liked it so much.

He makes a lot of other types of wallets, as well.
